The Hit Job on Fox News

Veterans’ letter attacking Bolling, Gutfeld, hid liberal activists.

By 9.30.14

It was a hit job. Sixty veterans signing a much publicized “Open Letter to Fox News” — yet the signers were mysteriously never identified beyond the military branch in which they served.

No wonder. I have been through the list of sixty, and it is filled with Obama campaign workers, one ex-Obama White House aide, liberal activists, Democratic Party congressional candidates, Democratic Party state legislators, and more. The letter was sponsored by the Truman Project, a ten-year-old think tank with a focus on national security. Its board of directors includes Hunter Biden, the son of the Vice President. None of which was even whispered in the haughty “Open Letter” that was distributed to a media all too eager to go along with an attack on Fox News and two of the co-hosts on the Fox show The Five — Eric Bolling and Greg Gutfeld. Instead the letter was presented as a source of genuine outrage from average, non-partisan American veterans — while keeping the real identity of the signers secret.

And you wonder why Americans are cynical about politicians?

The other day on Fox’s The Five co-host Eric Bolling made a mistake. Following up a “One More Thing” salute by co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle to United Arab Emirates Air Force Major Mariam Al Mansouri for being that rarity of an Air Force pilot in an Arab country – a woman pilot in that part of the world where women are all too frequently treated as less than even second class citizens. Bolling joked about whether this meant “boobs on the ground.” Gutfeld smiled a joke about whether the Major could park the jet. (For those who watch Gutfeld on both The Five and his own Redeye, the joke is always the joke within the joke, obviously lost on less sophisticated critics — unless, of course, it wasn’t lost and they needed Gutfeld’s remark to help play their game.)

By the next day there was the inevitable apology from Bolling, which he expanded on during a second show after that. Bolling mentioned that Fox had heard from a number of women in the military who were in fact genuinely upset. And Gutfeld, who correctly notes that he is known for “hacky jokes” that are supposed to be “hacky jokes,” did his own apology.

Time to move on, yes? There are people out there who wish “death to America” and are working on it. Surely there’s more to be concerned about than this? No. Not if you’re the Truman Project.

What in the world does the Truman Project have to do with the Bolling/Gutfeld episode from The Five? Well, gee. If you’re only a ten year old think tank and your coin of the realm is national security, the Bolling/Gutfeld remarks are pure PR gold. So without wasting a moment, the Truman Project had a new project to raise its profile: Jump into this pool and make a sure-fire splash by self-righteously attacking Fox News, Bolling, and Gutfeld. So it did.

The tool selected for this job was a condescending-in-tone “Open Letter to Fox News” ripping Messrs. Bolling and Gutfeld — after they apologized. And the hook? Have the letter signed by sixty former members of the U.S. military. All of them signing with nothing but their name and their branch of service. As in “Jane Doe, US Army” or “John Doe, US Navy” etc.

So the letter was written, the sixty signers added — and voila! Great PR ensues from the media! It took off on the Internet and social media. Mediate headlined: “60 Veterans Sign Open Letter to Fox News Condemning ‘Boobs on the Ground’ Remark.”

Over at Talking Points Memo the headline read: “An Open Letter To Fox News About ‘Boobs On The Ground.”

At Business Insider the header was: “US Veterans Send Fox News An Open Letter About ‘Boobs On The Ground’ Joke.”

The letter went everywhere. And what did the Truman Project letter say?

[…]

What followed were the sixty signatures, with service branch indicated.

Now. Notice the very first part of the very first sentence? The part that begins: “We are veterans of the United States armed forces….”

True enough, as far as it goes. But right off the bat something very important was left out. Who are these people? Veterans – i.e., former members of the military — are like everyone else. When not in the service they are doing other things. In this case the question is obvious. Like… what? Curiously — very curiously — the letter does not say what these signers have been doing in their non-military lives. There was a reason.

The very first signer is “Michael Breen, U.S. Army.” Who is Michael Breen? Aside from being the executive director of the Truman Project? The Truman Project itself identifies Mr. Breen as having “clerked in the Office of White House Counsel, where he focused on national security matters and assisted with the confirmation of (Obama nominee) Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor.” Which is to say, Mr. Breen is a former Obama White House aide.

And from there on through the list one finds the signatories to this letter of outrage to have backgrounds other than being a veteran — serious political backgrounds. Backgrounds that are highly partisan — and hidden from readers. For example?

  •  “Margot Beausey, U.S. Navy” is a staffer for Colorado Democrat Senator Michael Bennet and is pictured here with President Obama when she worked as an Obama White House Navy liaison.
  •  “Scott Holcomb, U.S. Army” is State Representative Scott Holcomb, a Democrat from Georgia who serves as the Democrats’ Chief Deputy Whip in the Georgia State House.
  •  “Aryanna Hunter, U.S. Army” is Aryanna Hunter Strader, the 2012 Democratic nominee for Congress from Pennsylvania’s 16th District.
  •  “Alex Cornell du Houx, U.S. Navy” is a Democrat in the Maine House of Representatives. He is a “vice-chair of the DNC Veterans Council and member of the DNC Youth Council.”
  •  “Kevin Johnson, U.S. Army” is an Obama White House “Champion of Change” as featured on the White House website.
  •  “Andrea Marr, U.S. Navy” is likewise celebrated on the Obama White House website as a “Champion of Change”
  •  “Jon Gensler, U.S. Army” is an environmental activist who has worked for the left-wing Environmental Defense Fund and been a “guest blogger” on climate change at the left-wing Think Progress.
  •  “Rob Miller, U.S. Marine Corps” appears to correspond with ex-US Marine Rob Miller who twice was the Democrats’ nominee against South Carolina Republican Congressman Joe Wilson.
  •  “Terron Sims II, U.S. Army” is in fact a former co-chair of 2008’s Virginia Veterans for Obama and is now “a member of Organizing for America’s (OFA) veterans steering committee.”
  •  “Sonia Fernandez, U.S. Marine Corps” as noted here, “served as a campaign volunteer for the Presidential campaign of then Senator Barack Obama in 2008, working in New Mexico and again in 2012 serving as a national campaign surrogate for his reelection, writing blogs, appearing in the media as well as serving as an elected delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention. She is currently the Western Regional Coordinator for the Democratic National Committee’s, Veterans and Military Families Council where she helps to advocate for veteran issues.”
  •  “Dan Futrell, U.S. Army” is a Democratic activist from Massachusetts, a supporter of Elizabeth Warren who wrote of veterans support for her candidacy in the pages of the Huffington Post.
  •  “Daniel Savage, U.S. Army” has “served on the staff of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel” — President Obama’s former White House chief of staff.
  •  “Matt Pelak, U.S. Army” is seen here at this White House website meeting with President Obama about a project called Team Rubicon.
  •  “LaRue Robinson, U.S. Army” served as “National Democratic Law Students Council, Vice President, 2008-2009.”
  •  “Anthony Woods, U.S. Army” was a Democratic candidate for Congress in a California primary. He lost to John Garamendi but received considerable favorable press attention, as here in the Daily Beast where he was lauded for having “the best political résumé ever” as “a gay, black Iraq veteran with a Harvard degree.”
  •  “Matt Zeller, U.S. Army” was “the Democrat candidate for Congress in 2010 in NY’s 29th Congressional District.”

The Truman Project has quite deliberately and deceptively made this “Open Letter to Fox News” appear to the media and the wider public as if its signers are nothing more than outraged veterans. Nothing to see here more than that…just look, report it and move on. Which, in fact, is what all those “news” outlets above not to mention the wider social media did. Not a one of them published the backgrounds of the signers.

But in reality this snarky letter is filled with signers who have either worked directly in the Obama White House, have served in or have run for state or federal office as Democrats, or have worked as activists for various liberal causes.

What we have here in fact is a classic example of a left-wing hit job. No one, beginning with Eric Bolling and Greg Gutfeld, believes their off-the-cuff remarks on a live TV show were appropriate. Both men have apologized, Bolling twice. But this isn’t really about Eric Bolling or Greg Gutfeld. What this is really all about is a hardcore and on-going political effort to smear Fox News. This time as part of that “war on women” business liberals need to survive politically.

Gov. Palin: Obama’s praise of Bin Bayyah at the UN reveals dear leader’s heart

Obama’s Praise Betrays Us

As I told a Washington, DC audience this weekend, “We can survive the Error of Obama; it’s almost over, and we can survive this President. The question is, can we survive the people who voted for him a second time?” Barack Obama’s praise this week for the Muslim cleric who advocated killing our U.S. soldiers is one of the most appalling stunts we’ve seen. He’s been enabled by the low information voters who gave him a second term to express his true beliefs in a perversely refreshing way that allows even the ill informed to now realize who our Commander in Chief really is. For all the world leaders to see, he quoted and promoted Sheikh Abdallah Bin Bayyah at the UN despite the cleric’s organization having declared a fatwa to kill U.S. soldiers and stating all Jews should die. Bin Bayyah, according to Barack Obama said:

“Look at the new Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies—Sheikh bin Bayyah described its purpose: ‘We must declare war on war, so the outcome will be peace upon peace.’”

Of all the people to praise on an international stage, Obama would twist and deceive the world into believing Bin Bayyah is a man of peace representing a religion of peace. This cleric is affiliated with various anti-American groups, was vice president of an organization founded by the Muslim Brotherhood (which also called for the killing of Jews and Americans), and during the 2013 White House public tours shut-down when Obama refused to allow American citizens to visit the public sections of the People’s House, Bin Bayyah was invited into the private areas of our White House.

This week saw more than the disrespectful latte salute of America’s finest. We saw and heard from dear leader’s heart who he deems worthy of praise.

Gov. Palin: Meriam Ibrahim’s strength is inspiring

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 28, 2014

Posted on Governor Palin’s Facebook page today:

Had a great time at the Values Voters Summit in Washington, DC. Inspired by many of those I got to visit with including Meriam Ibrahim whose strength is inspiring. Imprisoned in her native Sudan for converting to Christianity, Meriam was sentenced to death. She gave birth to her second child, a daughter named Maya Wani, in prison while still shackled to the floor. After the outcry of Christians and other people of faith across the country and the world, Meriam was freed. Never wavering from her belief in Christ, Meriam explained how she did not waver by telling us, “Faith means life. If you don’t have faith, you’re not alive.”

Gov. Palin campaigns with Rob Maness at alligator restaurant in Louisiana

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 28, 2014

Governor Palin campaigned for Colonel Rob Maness in Crown Point, Louisiana on Saturday.

Cole Avery at NOLA.com reports:

Sarah Palin has made a lot of stump speeches, but the wide-eyed look on her face showed Saturday’s might have been her first to feature a live alligator.

Palin attended an event for Senate candidate Rob Maness at Restaurant des Familles in Crown Point. Following the speech, Maness surprised the former Alaska governor with a three-foot gator.

The visit from the scaly guest — courtesy of Insta-Gator Ranch in Covington — was met with zydeco music and a standing ovation from the 100-plus Maness supporters in attendance.

“She just laughed about it,” Maness said. “She’s a warrior for American and a warrior for freedom. I’m honored to get her endorsement, but I’m honored she’s prioritized our campaign.”

“Mama Grizzly” and the “Alligator Hunter” served the guests a variety of alligator-inspired foods, a throwback to a Maness ad where he wrestles an alligator.

Palin has endorsed Maness in his race to unseat Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu over the Republican establishment candidate, Rep. Bill Cassidy. She compared Maness to other conservative favorites like Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Mike Lee, R-Utah.

“He knows the issues and what Washington, D.C., does to a state like Louisiana,” Palin said. “We need a fighter in D.C. that doesn’t just go with the flow.”

Palin had equally tough talk for both the Republican establishment and the Democratic Party.

“Rob has the added challenge of going up against the establishment. The folks in the GOP are in it for a season, not a reason. It’s a business for them,” Palin said. “Rob is standing up for the average, hardworking American who is saying, ‘Enough is enough.’ The status quo has got to go.”

She also took aim at Landrieu by joking about her residency controversy and linking her to President Barack Obama and other Democratic Party leaders.

“Mary has tried to have it both ways. When you’re in the middle of the road, you get hit on both sides,” Palin said.

Gov. Palin speaks at Voter Values Summit in DC today (roundup)

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 26, 2014

Video retrieved from TheRedEye

Loved that latte salute!  Governor Palin spoke at the Voter Values Summit today, and that salute and Governor Palin’s use of 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue as the address for the White House were the takeaway lines for the mainstream media.  Governor Palin later humorously addressed her inadvertent error on Twitter:

Doggone it! That explains why my Christmas cards keeps getting returned! pic.twitter.com/j4M35K963i

David Sherfinski at the Washington Times writes:

– The Washington Times – Friday, September 26, 2014

Decrying the “lamestream media” and “Alinsky-lovin’” elitists, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called on attendees at the 2014 Values Voter Summit to help fundamentally restore America.

“It is time to stand and fight like your country’s future depends on it, because it does,” she said.

She derided “these Alinksy-lovin’, Orwellian, out-of-touch command and control elitists who’ve been running the show” who used to rail against big government — but have now actually become “The Man.”

“Their M.O. is to play the politics of personal destruction against anyone who they would deem a threat to their power,” she said.

[…]

She said Friday the left screams racism just to end debates and urged the crowd: “don’t retreat — you reload with truth.”

“We can survive this president — the question is, can we survive the people who voted for him a second time?” she said.

She told the “values voters” in attendance that they “scare the bejesus” out of opponents because voters in the audience value things such as life and equal opportunity — issues people can’t argue against.

“Friends, the accuser would say that you are the divisive ones, the media trying to say that our basic core values divide, that truth, liberty, and opportunity, and courage, and life,” she said. “Do they divide? Only under screwed up Orwellian leadership would they be considered as something to divide.”

But, she said, a positive, optimistic outlook is key.

“Go not as prophets of doom and fear, but messengers of vibrant life and real hope,” she said. “We are value voters. And our values were our founders’ values, they are America’s values. And our message is the message that America wants to hear and needs to hear.”

Fred Lucasa at The Blaze reports:

Sarah Palin Gives Obama Coffee Cup Salute in Passionate Speech

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took at jab at President Barack Obama’s coffee cup salute from earlier this week.

“Our honored military — when we talk about these national security issues, our honored military, on behalf of all Americans who do support you — and we honor you, we respect you,” the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate said Friday speaking at the Values Voters Summit in Washington.

“On behalf of all Americans to your commander-in-chief, we then will salute him,” Palin said, raising a styrofoam cup, to laughter from the audience.

Palin mistakenly identified the address of the White House in providing advice of how to handle attacks form the left.

“Well, don’t retreat, you reload with truth – which I know is an endangered species at 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue anyway, truth,” Palin said. “ The media’s favorite president, he just can’t stop telling lies.”

She also jokingly ripped media outlets for reporting about a divorce that isn’t happening.

She said her husband Todd jokingly said, “Is it still that same $20 million divorce? Well, write me the check.”

“It’s kind of tragic to say it, though, at this point, what difference does it make?” Palin said, clearly mocking former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”We are used to it. Sure as the sun will come up tomorrow, we expect it.”

Palin also spoke in favor of abolishing the Internal Revenue Service.

Palin made news earlier this year when she advocated for the impeachment of Obama for executive overreach. While she did not mention impeachment in her speech Friday, she called Obama a “lawless and imperial president.”

Friday in Washington D.C. at the Family Research Council’s 2014 Values Voter Summit, former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) called on conservatives to “get back to work,” and “to save our country.”

Palin was on a roll as she mocked Obama‘s “latte salute,” slammed his “false promises and messianic oratory” and blasted his “dense liberal elite” attitude.

She rallied the audience saying, “All Americans, rich and poor, men and women, every race, every background, it is time to end the politics of division. The politics of demographics and identity groups under attack except distraction. So the status quo has got to go. United we will be able to stand.”

[…]

“The media’s favorite president, he just can’t stop telling lies,” Palin added. “You know, he just said that the Islamic State, ISIS isn’t Islamists. You know who that’s news to? The Islamic State who calls themselves Islamic and Muslims to join their death cult.”

Pastor Saeed Prayer Vigil
This week marks the two-year anniversary of the imprisonment of Pastor Saeed Abedini, the American citizen jailed in Iran for his Christian faith. Now he faces a new danger as ISIS militants imprisoned in the same jail are threatening his life.
Along with Saeed’s wife, Naghmeh, I will be hosting a prayer vigil in Washington, D.C., this Thursday at 6 p.m. outside the White House. Naghmeh also has mobilized prayer vigils in cities across the world to pray for her husband and the persecuted church. I’m encouraging everyone to find a vigil in your area, or register to host one yourself.
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16, NKJV).
Please join with other believers as we call on the Name of the Lord.

Gov. Palin: Kansas, the choice is clear: Pat Roberts or Harry Reid?

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 25, 2014

Governor Palin campaigned for Senator Pat Roberts at a pancake breakfast in Independence, Missouri this morning.   Many think that the outcome of this particular race could determine whether the GOP wins a Senate majority in November.

Posted on Governor Palin’s Facebook page this afternoon.

Sarah Palin
——————

We enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise in the Sunflower state while driving to Independence, Kansas, early this morning – one year to the day that Kansas Senator Pat Roberts took a stand that changed our national debate. Remember through that night, Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee took their historic stand for all of us in their effort to fulfill campaign promises and defund Obamacare. Very few Senators stood with them, but Pat Roberts knew it was the right thing to do; so, this tried, tested, and true Kansas conservative charged the hill and also stood strong in service to his home state and all Americans!

It’s been a tough primary season, and now it’s time for Republicans, independents, and blue dog democrats to unite! Those who are concerned about the Obama/Reid failed liberal agenda that is “fundamentally transforming” the nation we love must rally around the primary victor and remember that the goal is to beat back the radical left’s agenda. Kansas, the choice is clear: Pat Roberts or Harry Reid? Voters today in Independence know enough about independents to know that the opponent in this race, Greg Orman, is not one. He’s donated thousands of dollars to Barack Obama and Harry Reid! He wanted them to do what they’ve done! He actually SUPPORTS the mother-of-all disastrous mandates, Obamacare; the guy actually SUPPORTS amnesty for illegal immigrants; he’s pro-abortion… the list goes on. No one with the liberal record of support for the most radical of Harry Reid’s agenda passes the straight-face test when claiming he’s just “independent.” Good try, Greg, but these sharp, hardworking, salt-of-the-earth patriots see right through the liberals’ game in coaxing the “I” after your name. The good people I met this morning say, “Of course, he’s a liberal, in sheep’s clothing.” One straight-shooting farmer hit it home when explaining, “I think he’s just full of bull.”

Senator Pat Roberts has fought hard in many ways. I was amazed at how many constituents he knew by name and their specific concerns about the direction of America and their state’s particular issues. So many thanked him for fighting for them in Washington and before that as a Marine. Once a Marine always a Marine! Kansas, please re-elect this good man. My only complaint is that when I pointed to his ranking as “The Third Most Conservative Senator,” he grinned in his own humble way and told me he’d seen a ranking that put him fourth. Comparing his consistent conservative record with anyone else’s, I insisted my research was right; so, my complaint is that this was the first argument I’ve ever had with a U.S. Senator while, literally, approaching the microphone together.

Kansas, please send this marine back to the hill! Thank you, Independence, for hosting such a fun and productive and inspiring day! In your beautiful museum with scrumptious Chris Cakes to serve his constituents, Senator Roberts and I agreed, it was a perfect pancake feed!

Big, big mid-term elections are right around the corner. Please stand tall with us and support the strong unheralded candidates who are the future of the inspiring conservative movement! I’m headed out on the road again to support those who are fighting hard for the future of America. I’m also honored to speak at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, DC. You can register here: ValuesVoterSummit.org/Register

Let me give you a peek at behind-the-scenes moments while readying for a rally. As you may assume, it’s a bit unconventional! Enjoy this short video and stay tuned for details on upcoming events. I hope to meet you on the road as we unite to change the very dangerous agenda that liberals have thrust upon us. United we stand! We WILL recover!
