Koran Burning Is Insensitive, Unnecessary; Pastor Jones,…

Posted by Ron Devito on September 8, 2010

Governor Palin today posted on Facebook:

Book burning is antithetical to American ideals. People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation – much like building a mosque at Ground Zero.

I would hope that Pastor Terry Jones and his supporters will consider the ramifications of their planned book-burning event. It will feed the fire of caustic rhetoric and appear as nothing more than mean-spirited religious intolerance. Don’t feed that fire. If your ultimate point is to prove that the Christian teachings of mercy, justice, freedom, and equality provide the foundation on which our country stands, then your tactic to prove this point is totally counter-productive.

Our nation was founded in part by those fleeing religious persecution. Freedom of religion is integral to our charters of liberty. We don’t need to agree with each other on theological matters, but tolerating each other without unnecessarily provoking strife is how we ensure a civil society. In this as in all things, we should remember the Golden Rule. Isn’t that what the Ground Zero mosque debate has been about?

American is so poorly on the defensive. The undeniable truth is that there are Muslims out there bent on destroying America whether or not Korans are burnt. Perhaps the Imams should tell those terrorists to stop killing Muslims and non-muslims with their acts of terror. The reason they confront the puny little church instead of those really destructive terrorist Muslims is that they are scared of being killed by these terrorist. There is something really and badly wrong with Islam, but fingers are just pointing the wrong way. I do not agree with Koran burning, but I hope that people in America, especially the muslims would start looking at their religion and start asking “Is the something wrong with Islam” MUslims are so sensitive and people outside the religion are afraid to ask the question. America….you are motivated by fear.

Never mind that there are churches being burnt in Indonesia, never mind that the taleban is imposing stoning in Afghanistan, or that muslim terrorists are killing other muslims in the name of religion. Muslim is perfect, untouchable and blameless and anyone that tries to question islam is blemishing a religion that would invite a fatwa. The Muslims in this world must sort out their problem, instead they are just looking out for excuses and found the perfect foil in a little church, and poor old America is on the defensive again.

      Jim,

I could not agree with you more. Tolerance is a one-way street in Islam. There’s so much I could say, but won’t because this is not the place for it. I’ll refer you instead to Pamela Geller’s Atlas Shrugs.
