One Man’s Reflections About August 29, 2008

Reflections On The Day Gov. Palin Changed The Nation

I was asked to do a post on my reflections of Gov. Palin’s nomination for VP of the Republican Party. My wife and I actually started following Gov. Palin right after she was elected Governor of the state of Alaska. We joined the Draft Gov. Palin for VP movement over a year before she was actually picked. I truly believed that Gov. Palin could change the destructive course our Republic was on and bring common sense back to DC.

Right before the nomination it was announced that Gov. Palin would not be the pick and that she was not even under consideration for the VP spot. It was pretty depressing because I was convinced she was the right person. The morning of the announcement I had woke up extra early to see if there had been a leak and Fox News was reporting that someone matching Gov. Palin’s description may have flown in. I excitedly ran and told my wife that it was Gov. Palin.

For the first time in my life I understood what Democrats meant when they talk about the impact that JFK and RFK had on them. It was exciting to have a nominee that we had fought so hard for, but the greatest impact by far was how I felt as a father with daughters. I can’t describe it, but it felt like for the first time they could truly achieve anything, even the presidency if they so desired.

For years I told my kids about Margaret Thatcher, but she was from my day. Now my kids would have someone from their lifetime to look up to. I belive Gov. Palin changed the nation even though she did not win the election. She changed it because she showed girls every where that they could be a conservative family woman, career woman, pro-Second Amendment, and pro-life and make it.

This is what I will always be grateful to Gov. Palin for; the example that she is to my daughters and future generations of women yet to be born. So thank you Gov. Palin and I look forward with great anticipate to what the future may hold.

UPDATE: Geraldine Ferraro: A Tribute (A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice)

Posted by conservativegirlwithavoice on March 26, 2011

As many of you have heard, Geraldine Ferraro passed away this morning at the age of 75 from blood cancer. As a young woman, I have always admired Mrs. Ferraro because she did so much for women and helped to shatter a glass ceiling that at one time seemed unbreakable. Unlike many other Democrats, Mrs. Ferraro was unafraid to stand up and speak out against her own party, which made me respect her even more. I will never forget watching her on Fox News shortly after Sarah Palin was announced as John McCain’s running mate. As a woman, she was so proud at the possibility of a woman holding the second-highest office in the land. Although she and Sarah disagreed on many, many issues, and Ferraro supported President Obama during the 2008 election, she looked past these differences, which speaks to her integrity, wisdom and strength of character.

As a young woman, I always will be grateful for Mrs. Ferraro’s service and the sacrifice she made for her country. She forever will be a role model to me for everything she represented. Although she is no longer physically with us, her fight for women and her love of country will live on! Thank you, Geraldine, for everything you did for women like me! Thank you for defending women, regardless of party, and for never foundering in your mission for the advancement of women in politics and beyond! Thank you for your sacrifice and your steadfast, unwavering love for America!!! You will forever be missed!!!

I leave you with one of my favorite television clips of Geraldine Ferraro and Sarah Palin together for the first time on Fox News. Click here to watch.

UPDATE: Make sure to click here to visit The Other McCain and read more about Sarah Palin’s tribute to Geraldine Ferraro.

Tucker Carlson “Blames” Charlie Sheen for his Sexist Behavior: A Post by Conservative Girl with a Voice

Posted by conservativegirlwithavoice on March 1, 2011

My good friend and co-host, Camille Friend, over at The Design Conservative wrote an excellent piece last night, bringing to my attention a recent comment Political Pundit and Daily Caller Founder Tucker Carlson tweeted (and later permanently deleted). In this tweet, Mr. Carlson took it upon himself to call former Alaska Governor, author and Political Contributor Sarah Palin a “MILF” or in his exact words a “milfistan.”  This is a term that not only serves to degrade and demean the female sex, but shows a total lack of respect and common human decency. I am not about to go into detail about the meaning of this word, if it can even be called that, so you will have to take my word for it or go surf the web. For those of you out there who have never heard of this term, I am sure you will immediately realize the stupidity Mr. Carlson illustrated in describing Sarah this way.

We hear many members of the far left speak this way about female candidates like Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann and political contributors like Michelle Malkin, but to hear an uncouth statement like this come from a so-called conservative cuts the wound even deeper. In making comments like this, he has basically offended women across the country regardless of political ideology.  This type of disgusting talk has unfortunately become the norm in today’s political climate.

Individuals like Carlson, who get paid for their political commentary, have forgotten that in order to be taken seriously, you have to remain respectful and hold at least some form of a moral code to which you live your life.  Perhaps my friend, Camille, put it best:

If you *must* use locker room language, save it for the locker room.  Don’t display your inner-most Neanderthal to your 23,000+ Twitter followers – some of whom will take the opportunity to offer their own crass retort.  Surely, we can expect more from you, Mr. Carlson – can’t we?

I have always respected Mr. Carlson because he has done a lot to advance the conservative movement with his commentary and writings. With this said, I have lost a lot of respect for this man given his most recent comments. I would hope that Mr. Carlson, the man, would apologize or at least restrain himself from making comments like this again, but it seems as if this is not going to happen anytime soon given his most recent tweet posted moments ago:

Apparently Charlie Sheen got control of my Twitter account last night while I was at dinner. Apologies for his behavior.

Mr. Carlson, wise up. Joking around and blaming Charlie Sheen for your ridiculous tweet is about as ridiculous as blaming President George W. Bush for the rain we had this past weekend here in my home state of California. Not cool, Mr. Carlson, not cool….

Can Palin overcome the ‘women hate women’ factor?

Posted by loricalabrese on November 22, 2010

Chris Rock boiled it down to one very memorable comedy routine “You would think women would rule the world. But they don’t. They don’t. You know why? Because women hate women! Women hate women!”

It’s not a new story, but if Sarah Palin declares her candidacy for the White House, it’s one that will certainly consume much of the media for months. In fact, it’s already being debated. Should Palin throw her name in the race? Can she beat Obama? Critics say her favorability numbers are low among independents and they worry, in particular, that she will alienate women voters. Rewind back to 2008…one of the main reasons McCain put Palin on the ticket was because he wanted to reach out to women voters, however, the voters who deserted McCain and Palin the fastest were mostly women.Perhaps Chris Rock is onto something. . .

The liberal mainstream media continue their quest to discredit Sarah Palin and her supporters, with so-called journalist Eleanor Clift becoming the latest journalist to take the plunge. Just this week, Clift wrote a piece for Politics Daily entitled The ‘Palin Effect’: Not all Young Republican Women are Buying it. In the piece, Clift goes to great lengths to argue that many young, Republican women do not view Sarah as a role model for their generation. As a young, Conservative Republican woman myself, I had to laugh at this notion. While it is no secret that Sarah Palin has a fair share of those who dislike her and her politics, I find it hard to believe that Clift knows anything about the powerful impact Sarah has had on so many young women of my generation. Before Sarah entered the forefront, I did not care too much about politics as a whole. While I always have made it a point to vote and keep up to date on the happenings going on in the country, I did not have an activist streak in me. Sarah changed all of this for me. When she became the VP nominee, I, along with the rest of America, was introduced to a woman who seemed to have it all: a great career, an awesome husband and family and a deep faith- all while leading a normal life in the last frontier. She reminded me of a modern-day Annie Oakley or Margaret Thatcher.

While Clift argues that a large number of young, Republican women do not feel inspired by Sarah, I find it odd that she is only able to cite one young woman who feels this way. Senior Leanna Cannafax, President of the Samford Young Republican’s Club, had this to say when asked about Sarah:

It’s hard for me to relate to her even though she’s Republican and conservative. As a young woman, I have to be open-minded to things I don’t agree with, and I feel she doesn’t even listen.

Hmmm, Leanna, I have to wonder if you are listening to a word Sarah says. After all, while governor of Alaska, Sarah was one of the few Republican governors who was widely known for reaching out across the aisle, listening to Democrats and Republicans. She was never a quote on quote “rubber stamp” to any set political party. I have to wonder if Leanna knows what Conservatives even stand for. While is a good thing to be open minded and unbiased, it is also important to stick to your convictions and fight for what you believe in. This is exactly what Sarah does day in and day out.

Perhaps the most ridiculous part of the article is Clift’s sad excuse for a conclusion:

I don’t pretend to have taken a scientific poll, but getting outside the Beltway and inside a small Southern campus made me wonder if Palin’s biggest constituency is the media, not voters, and whether she makes a better story than she does role model.

So Clift’s trip outside the Beltway suddenly classifies her as a scientist??? If you ask me, she needs to do her research and gather a few more sources before she even begins to attempt to try to understand young, Republican women of my generation. Maybe if she actually did her homework, she would she why women like myself look up to Sarah with such high regard. It’s called fact checking- plain and simple. Ever heard of it, Ms. Clift???

While Clift was only able to quote a single source for her biased piece, I can name a large number of young women who, like me, connect with Sarah and view her as a role model for our generation. For me, Sarah is a modern-day feminist. She is a fierce force to reckon with, and those who try to bring her down usually fail. As a great wife and mom, Sarah is able to balance motherhood with her career, all doing so while wearing a phenomenal pair of, excuse my language, “kick-ass heels.” Thank you Sarah, for being the mama grizzly you are, and for teaching this grizzly girl and thousands like me how important it is to stand up and speak out on behalf of the commonsense conservative movement. I’m not the only grizzly girl who feels this way. In closing, I leave you with some great insight from a couple of fellow grizzly girls:

For me, Sarah Palin embodies everything I love about conservatism and feminism. She is a self-made woman, works arduously for the sake of her family and her country, she does not shy away from her principles, she scares the establishment of both parties, she is unafraid of pointing out the fallacies of the liberal agenda, and always has a smile on her face when doing so.

Her message inspires women of all stripes to participate in politics and not relent. Mama and sister grizzlies (as well as those papa bears) are uniting for the common cause of returning our country to the common sense conservatism we crave and need. She is one of the many reasons I love to engage in political discourse on my blog. Thank you to the Mama Grizzly herself for being one of the leaders of this new movement of real change!
-Jennifer of
Cubachi.

Governor Palin is inspiring to many women – myself included – in ways that transcend her political views. One can agree with her, or not, in that regard. But, really, her appeal lies in the courage and perseverance she shows in the face of very challenging situations. There’s something comforting about seeing a woman ‘just like me’ take all of the experiences of life in stride and continue making her own way forward. I think that’s a character trait any honest person should be able to appreciate.
-Camille Friend of
The Design Conservative.

NOTE: I will be a guest on Alaska’s 700 KBYR tomorrow where I will be interviewed by Eddie Burke. The show runs from 5-6pdt/8-9edt. Outside Alaska? Listen online at kbyr.com.

Master List of Governor Palin’s 2009 Accomplishments

Posted by Ron Devito on November 30, 2009

Updated November 30, 2009 at 1330 (1:30 PM) EST.

Following is a categorized Master List of Governor Palin’s accomplishments for 2009 with links to each accomplishment item and selected photos. This is a lengthy list, yet as of this writing only covers less than seven months. The Master List will be updated as accomplishment items are added, permanently linked in the Reference Blogs box (on Google Blog), and occasionally time/date stamp re-posted (perhaps quarterly).

Blogs are ephemeral in that entries are buried as more are added. Sure, readers can search by key words, but that is no substitute for a categorized index. Through this Master List, readers can see precisely what Governor Palin has achieved in just these nine months alone. If this list were to be printed, it would be over 30 pages.

Note: items also reflect how this blog has matured over time.

Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA)

AGIA will result in a 1,715-mile natural gas pipeline to run from Alaska’s North Slope to a connecting point in Alberta, Canada and end 30 years of pipe dreaming about same. The pipeline will bring Alaskan natural gas to the Lower 48 states. The pipeline is expected to be complete in 2019. It will be North America’s largest infrastructure project. This achievement alone is more than most of us do in an entire lifetime.
