Happy Birthday, Todd ‘Rambo’ Palin!

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 6, 2012

Click on photo to view slideshow.

Today is Todd Palin’s 48th birthday.  After an outstanding performance throughout the series, he placed fourth in the ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ grand finale, which aired Monday night.  So we at SPIB want to wish him a happy birthday and congratulations on his successful performance  in that competition.  His performance earned him the nickname ‘Rambo” and remarks such as, “he’s very, very tough, ”  “he’s the quiet assassin,”  “he really was amazing,” and more.  Todd Palin’s Bio at the ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ website also indicates that he assisted in the production and logistics of the show.

Of course, no one should be surprised at this from a four-time Iron Dog champion.  Todd’s skills and toughness from running his commercial fishing business and hunting moose in the wilds of Alaska stood him in good stead also.   Todd has a keen business mind as well, as evidenced by his focus on jobs and vocational training opportunities  while First Dude of Alaska.

Today we want to wish Todd all of God’s best blessings and success with all his future endeavors.  May all your plans succeed and all your dreams come true!

Happy birthday, Todd ‘Rambo’ Palin!

Todd Palin wins $40 K for his charity; Eve Torres compliments the Palins

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 4, 2012

Todd Palin placed fourth during the ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ finale last night and won a total of $40,000. for his charity, the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska.   In a detailed article about the finale, Lisa Princ at Reality TV Magazine wrote this about Todd:

Sadly, that motivation was not enough to make up for Todd’s poor shooting tonight – nerves, perhaps? Todd has remained cool and a good shot in the past, so this one was baffling.

In the end of this elimination mission, it was Todd who could not beat Picabo in the elimination shootout (guess her motivation was still going), so he was sent packing. At this point, all the Palin haters were probably celebrating – say what you will about him, but I have to give him props for being on the show and making it this far. Todd was emotional at the end of his journey, having a new found appreciation for what his son, who is serving overseas, does on a daily basis.

Among the new friends Todd and Sarah made during the filming of ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ was Eve Torres.  Marc Malkin at TV Scoop wrote:

WWE star Eve Torres says the former Republican vice presidential hopeful couldn’t have been nicer when she visited hubby Todd when they were shooting NBC reality show Stars Earn Stripes.

“She was really a lovely woman,” Torres, who was crowned the winner of the show during its finale last night, told me earlier today. “We didn’t talk politics, but she was excited for me when I won. She was proud that I did it for the girls out there. She was really sweet.”

Torres, 28, even had dinner with the Palins. “At the end of the day, she’s a mom and a nice woman,” Torres said.

Stars Earn Stripes pitted celebrities against each other in military challenges (jumping from helicopters, crawling under barbed wire, shooting and being shot at, etc.) with the help of skilled operatives.

“I was so impressed with Todd Palin,” Torres said. “He performed really well. They have a son in the military so I think a lot of it for him was to say, ‘I’m doing this for you and all the other troops.'”

Gov. Palin: Looking Forward to Season Finale of ‘Stars Earn Stripes’

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 3, 2012

Governor Palin posted this comment on her Facebook post this afternoon:

Sarah Palin · 3,470,750 like this

This is the excellent article by Katie Pavlich at ZAP2it that Governor Palin linked to:

‘Stars Earn Stripes’ Todd Palin: ‘Our minds think we’re 20, but our bodies remind us that we’re not’

September 3, 2012 2:00 PM ET

Zap2itDid your son, Army Sgt. Track Palin (who deployed to Afghanistan earlier this year) or your wife, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, influence you to participate in a show (“Stars Earn Stripes”) that pairs celebrities with military operatives and first responders on simulated missions?
Todd Palin: No. 1 would be the cause, the military charity. Track was major, Sarah was major, and then my working experience on “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” knowing (producer] Mark Burnett puts out a great product.
Zap2it: Did you bond with your military operative partner?
Todd Palin: My guy was [former Marine] J.W. Cortes. Our common ground is he has a son with autism, and I’ve got a son with Down syndrome. Just being a father, you have a bond. With the additional challenge, there’s that extra bond. I’m a little older than he is, and I’m like, “We are blessed. There’s a reason why God put this child in our hands, in our family.”
Zap2it: How is your son, 4-year-old Trig, doing?
Todd Palin: He’s doing good. When we were filming, he said his first words. He told his older brother to quit picking on him, or something like that. And when J.W. went back to New York on one of the dark days, he said his name, so that was pretty exciting.
Zap2it: Did you get hurt?
Todd Palin: Our minds think we’re 20, but our bodies remind us that we’re not.
Zap2it: What was your charity?
Todd Plain: Armed Services YMCA Alaska. They make military family lives better. They’ve been up there in Alaska for 70 years.

‘Stolen Intelligence’ Preview: Finale of ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ Monday at 8-10 PM EST

Posted by Dr. Fay on August 31, 2012

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ website has posted a preview preview  of Episode 4, the grande finale episode, which will air from 8 to 10 PM EST on Monday.  The brief description of the episode is as follows:

In an action-packed finale, the remaining squads execute a ship-board mission in a battle for the championship.

We’re rooting for Todd Palin and J. W. Cortes, but regardless of who wins the championship, a lot of money will have been raised for the respective charities of the participants.  And that is a good thing.

Triple Anniversary for Palins and McCain Today

Posted by Dr. Fay on August 29, 2012

Four years ago today, Senator John McCain announced Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate at a rally in Ohio.  It just happened to be  John McCain’s birthday and the Palins’ wedding anniversary.    So today we want to celebrate the introduction of Governor Palin by Senator McCain to America and wish Senator McCain a happy birthday and the Palins a happy 24th anniversary.

The Washington Times made note of that first anniversary yesterday:

Wednesday marks an auspicious anniversary for Sarah Palin. The nation met her exactly four years ago: The date was Aug. 29, 2008 when then-White House hopeful Sen. John McCain introduced the inimitable governor of Alaska and her family at a campaign event in Ohio, telling the crowd of 15,000, “She’s not from these parts, and she’s not from Washington, but when you get to know her, you’re going to be as impressed as I am.” In a sleek black suit and signature up do, she was indeed a force to be reckoned with.

“Principles matter more than the party line,” Mrs. Palin told her enthusiastic audience.

Americans became transfixed by Mr. McCain’s audacious pick for a running mate. The mainstream press was outraged from the start. Illinois senator and presidential candidate Barack Obama phoned Mrs. Palin from his campaign bus to wish her luck.

And four years later, she is still “not from Washington” — notably absent from the Republican National Convention, campaigning instead for select Republican candidates in Arizona. Mrs. Palin is not done yet, and has now taken convention officials to task for bandying about a new rule that would lessen the role of states in choosing delegates.

Happy Birthday, Senator McCain! May you enjoy many more years of service to your country and happiness with your family. Happy Anniversary, Governor Palin and Todd! May you have many more happily married years and continue to be role models and leaders for our country.

Dean Cain About Todd Palin: “He’s the quiet assassin. He’s so steady.”

Posted by Dr. Fay on August 28, 2012

Video retrieved from .

Last night,  the 3 remaining squads competed in Episode 3 of ‘Stars Earn Stripes.’   According to the website, their mission was to:  “[d]rive into a hot zone, shoot out land mines to clear a landing zone, retrieve a desert patrol vehicle, destroy a fuel depot and ammo bunker.”   The squad to which Todd Palin and Picabo Street were assigned came in second.   Eve Torres’ sharp shooting skills helped her squad  to come in with the fastest time.  A shootout between Dean Lachey and Laila Ali resulted in Laila being the one dismissed from the competition.  Next week will be the final episode, in which two squads will compete for $100K for the winner’s charity.

Dean Cain appeared on Access Hollywood Live and talked to them about the show today.  Here is their report:

Todd Palin may have appeared on reality television before – on “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” – but this summer’s “Stars Earn Stripes” has shown a new side of the Alaskan to America, as well as his castmates like Dean Cain.

“Todd Palin was an animal,” Dean told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Tuesday’s Access Hollywood Live, about the celeb who surprised him the most on the NBC show. “He really was amazing.”

Over the show’s run, which has featured celebrities competing with military and law enforcement members in combat style challenges, Todd has kept his cool as he took out targets, and showed an incredible amount of support for teammates who felt disappointment after struggling on challenges.

“He’s the quiet assassin. He’s so steady,” Dean continued, praising Todd. “In the middle of it all, things go crazy, and you’ll see that in next week’s episode… Some people react well [under pressure]. All the ops are just, I think their blood pressure drops… but Todd is kind of always in that zone. He’s a real guy.”

Dean, who has been tackling the challenges on “Stars Earn Stripes” for the benefit of the Wounded Warrior Project, said next week’s show – the finale of the series – features some stunts that left his own heart racing.

“We’re scaling a 75-foot cargo net over the ocean with all our gear on [in the finale], and if you fall, there’s no safety line, there’s no nothing. You’re probably not going to be conscious when you hit the water, so some guys are going to have to get in there and get you because that’s a real big fall, and that sort of stuff happens and you just go, ‘Don’t fall,’” Dean said of how he stayed on point in the challenge.

Todd’s operative trainer,  J. W. Cortes, had an unusual encounter with a good Samaritan – fellow former Marine, Tyler Dodd – yesterday in New York City.    Zap2it reports:

“I was working in Grand Central Terminal at around 10:30 this morning,” Cortes tells Zap2it, “and over the police radio, I hear a call for police officer needing assistance. I responded to the corner of 43rd and Vanderbilt Ave.

“Basically, I see a police officer and two guys in a scuffle. I go to the police officer; I assist him in arresting one suspect. Then the other one is tell us that he’s not the bad guy, that he chased this person. He keeps telling us, ‘This guy, he just robbed somebody,’ something. I wasn’t really that sure what the bad guy had done.

“So, lo and behold, we’re talking, and he’s telling me that he’s an Iraq and Afghanistan War veteran. He’s got two Purple Hearts. We’re talking, and he looks at me and says, ‘Aren’t you on “Stars Earn Stripes”?’ I said, ‘This isn’t about me; this is about you, man. You did a great job.’ I’m telling him, ‘This is outstanding, good for you. Dangerous. It was very dangerous. This thing could have gone horribly wrong, but congratulations are in order. You did an outstanding job.’

“He was just so humble. He told me he was a staff sergeant, showed me his wounds. I was so in awe of him, just how nice he was. That’s basically the gist of it.”

According to Cortes, Dodd told him that he was active in the Wounded Warrior Project, on behalf of which “Stars Earn Stripes” celebrity Dean Cain and operative Chris Kyle are competing.

“They’re doing an impeccable job for that charity,” says Cortes.

Told of his partner’s meeting with Dodd, Palin says, “That’s awesome. That’s cool.”

Cortes and Palin are competing for the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska, which helps service members and their families. Palin has invited Cortes to come up next May for some “Combat Fishing.”

“Last year,” says Palin, “they had 250 men and women, servicemen, fishing for Halibut in Seward, Alaska, and all the charter boats donate their time for that day. It’s an incredible event. I think it’s only best to have him come up and talk to Alaska’s soldiers.

J.W. is a rock. he’s a great guy. It was an honor to be his partner.”
Told that J.W. was impressed with his skills, Palin says, “I’m just another Alaskan grandpa.”

Both Palin and Cortes are impressed with competitorNick Lachey, who survived his second elimination challenge in Monday’s (Aug. 27) episode, besting boxerLaila Ali.

“Nick is just rock solid,” says Palin. “He’s a good man. I’m so excited for him and Vanessa, their new baby boy coming within the next couple weeks. He’s just awesome.”

“I didn’t know what to expect, honestly,” says Cortes. “What I quickly learned is, number one, he’s intelligent; number two, he’s a guy’s guy. He was there for the right reasons. He chose a charity for police officers, and I thanked him for that.”

Suspense is building to see who wins during the final episode of ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ next week.  Of course, we at SPIB are rooting for Todd Palin and J. W. Cortes.

‘Stars Earn Stripes’ Operative Cortes: Todd Palin is “here for something much bigger than just himself”

Posted by Dr. Fay on August 21, 2012

Video retrieved from  .

The full version of the video can be viewed  here.

If anything, Episode 2 of ‘Stars Earn Stripes’ was even more action-packed and suspense-filled than Episode 1.   A close tie involving a fraction of a minute (a difference of 17 seconds)  between the two slower teams resulted in a shootout that eliminated Terry Crews and his operative from the competition.  The remaining competitors will compete again on next week’s show.

Before their second assignment, the celebrities had to go through another session of basic training.  Todd Palin remarked, “You can never have enough training.  The more training the better.”

We got to watch Todd in target practice, when he was hitting dead center.   It looked like practice paid off.   Operative Cortes said in a vignette that accompanied the target practice scene:  “After speaking with Todd and learning how his son was serving in Afghanistan, and how he hopes to make his son proud of him, I can see it in his eyes, man. I know he’s here for something much bigger than just himself. That’s going to keep us alive in this competition.”

After training,  Todd’s squad was the first to compete.  He and Leila had to drop from a helicopter onto the roof of  an 8-story building,  eliminate a fuel depot,  rappel down the building into a truck, and then take out 10 more targets before jumping into a truck that drove over a fuel line that exploded behind them.

Laila Ali had to overcome her fear while rappelling down the building.  Todd encouraged her as they descended:  “”Good job, you got it!  …  Good job, Leila!”

Todd took out the first 3 targets with one shot each.   Chris Kyle remarked, “Todd Palin, he’s just a natural outdoorsman,  shooter, I mean, Todd knocked it out of the park. ”

As the squad was jumping into a truck and driving away,  Operative Cortes said,  ” I think Todd and I – we represent the everyday guy.  We weren’t born with certain physical attributes, but what we are are people who care, and we care enough to take risks.”
