RGJ: Sarah Palin speech raises $200K for Safari Club in Reno

Posted by joshpainter on January 30, 2011

– by Josh Painter
*
Some 2,000 formally-dressed members of the Safari Club International, after paying $100 each for what the Gazette-Journal billed as “Reno’s hottest ticket,” crowded into the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino’s Tuscany Ballroom Saturday night to hear Sarah Palin speak of the importance of protecting the environment and how Hunting and fishing are part of the American “heritage” and the nation’s “exceptionalism”:

“Don’t retreat, stand tall,” Palin told the crowd as she emphasized the importance of “responsible conservation.”

Palin also spoke of Second Amendment rights.

“We need to keep tabs on what the White House is telling us,” she also said.

She later said Americans would need to “count on Congress,” where the GOP regained control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November’s election.

But Palin emphasized the importance of local governments in setting policy.

“The best (management) is local” not “bureaucrats thousand of miles away” in Washington making the decisions, she said, drawing on her experience as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, before becoming that state’s governor.

[…]

Political science professor Fred Lokken of Truckee Meadows Community College said he considers Palin’s Safari Club appearance a “coup” for Reno and an “excellent” move for her.

“It’s always been a who’s who of some of the prominent conservative Republicans, so frankly for her either to get the invite or be able to wrangle the invite, it really helps her as she tries to position for 2012 and after,” he said. “This is one of the places to the seen.”

Palin’s visit will carry momentum beyond Reno since the Safari Club event draws visitors from afar, many of them wealthy.

[…]

“Being able to come to a group like this (gives) some street cred that might help her to sort of reestablish or bolster her efforts at building a campaign for 2012,” Lokken said. “It’s a guns rights place. They are huge in the Second Amendment. Her whole connection to Alaska probably makes her one of the most logical people they have had in years.”

Smith predicted that in a few months, Gov. Palin will be seen and heard again in Nevada at “Republican headquarters.”

Master List of Governor Palin’s 2009 Accomplishments

Posted by Ron Devito on November 30, 2009

Updated November 30, 2009 at 1330 (1:30 PM) EST.

Following is a categorized Master List of Governor Palin’s accomplishments for 2009 with links to each accomplishment item and selected photos. This is a lengthy list, yet as of this writing only covers less than seven months. The Master List will be updated as accomplishment items are added, permanently linked in the Reference Blogs box (on Google Blog), and occasionally time/date stamp re-posted (perhaps quarterly).

Blogs are ephemeral in that entries are buried as more are added. Sure, readers can search by key words, but that is no substitute for a categorized index. Through this Master List, readers can see precisely what Governor Palin has achieved in just these nine months alone. If this list were to be printed, it would be over 30 pages.

Note: items also reflect how this blog has matured over time.

Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA)

AGIA will result in a 1,715-mile natural gas pipeline to run from Alaska’s North Slope to a connecting point in Alberta, Canada and end 30 years of pipe dreaming about same. The pipeline will bring Alaskan natural gas to the Lower 48 states. The pipeline is expected to be complete in 2019. It will be North America’s largest infrastructure project. This achievement alone is more than most of us do in an entire lifetime.

August 19, 2009 Synopsis of Governor Palin’s Accomplishments

Posted by Ron Devito on August 19, 2009

Governor Palin caused the removal of two particularly onerous aspects of HR 3200, Obama’s proposed health care bill via two words — “death panel” — in a FaceBook posting. Her posts, which were fully cited and referenced ignited a firestorm of public protest against the bill, which is ongoing. The removed provision includes “end-of-life” counseling, and quite likely the “public option” will be removed.

When she left office, Governor Palin said, “I will be able to fight even harder for you – for what is right and for the truth. And I have never felt that you need a title to do that.” True to those words, Governor Palin accomplished this feat as a private citizen, having been out of office nary two weeks. Using FaceBook, she bypassed the mainstream media and got her message out unfiltered, awaking an otherwise apathetic public.

When she left office, Governor Palin had around 550,000 supporters on FaceBook. As of this writing, the number of supporters stands at 799,287 — just shy of 800,000. Her former gubernatorial Twitter Page is still gaining followers and as of this writing has 138,045. No date has been set for when this page will transition to a new name and Tweeting will resume.

Governor Palin received five awards at the National Rifle Association’s XVIII Gun Collectors Seminar in Anchorage for defending our Second Amendment rights. The most significant of these awards is a Benefactor Membership in the NRA, which is a $5,000 addition to the Life Membership, which as of this writing is $1,000 (The NRA has an Easy Pay option, where the membership is paid off in quarterly installments over 10 years). The second award — a Gold Medal of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting had not been awarded to anyone in 10 years. The remaining three awards were life memberships at gun collector groups in Missouri, Ohio, and Texas.

Various media reports stated that Governor Palin briefly visited New York City to meet with Harper Collins regarding her book deal. While the trip itself is not an accomplishment, the book deal most definitely is. Governor Palin’s autobiography is expected to be released in the spring of 2010.

July 27, 2009 Synopsis of Governor Palin’s Accomplishments

Posted by Ron Devito on July 27, 2009

Click edit above to add content to this empty capsule.

Governor Palin was invited to speak at Ronald Reagan Library on August 8, 2009. Michael Reagan may introduce her (note, despite many media reports circulating, this invitation was issued but has NOT yet been accepted).

Governor Palin resigned office effective July 26, 2009 to pursue national politics free of gubernatorial limitations and frivolous ethics complaints. Her entire administration remains intact to execute her agenda.

Governor Palin’s Farewell Address was Reaganesque to the core. It is more the announcement of a bold new beginning than a farewell.

Governor Palin signed several pieces of legislation and resolutions during July 2009. They were:

  • SB-125: Encourage aerospace development in AK
  • SB-177: Extend sunset for sport fishing guides and address harvest data collection
  • Pro-energy development and missile defense resolutions

    HJR-27: Alaska a Sovereign State
    HJR-25: Hydro-Electric a Renewable Resource
HJR-28: Oppose Federal Restriction on Oil and Gas Development
    HJR-12: Support Missile Defense System

  • SB-88: Power cost equalization
  • Defending Second Amendment rights.

SB-201: Extends Concealed Carry Permit Expiration to 5 Years from Birthday
HJR-17: Urges Congress not to pass HR-45.The federal legislation would put burdensome licensing and registration controls on individual gun owners.
SJR-10: Urges Congress to pass S-371. The legislation was to ensure that citizens of each state who are licensed or authorized by their home state to carry a concealed weapon, could do so in another state as long as they comply with the laws of that state.
SJR-3: The resolution expresses support to Congress for repealing the ban on carrying a firearm on National Park Service lands.

  • SB-3 Requiring information sharing between two agencies.
  • HRJ-19 Supports requirement of escort for loaded tankers traversing Prince William Sound.

The Governor appointed 29 people to boards, commissions and councils and made three judicial appointments between July 6, 2009 and July 26, 2009.

Governor Palin’s total appointments for 2009 was123, including 116 to boards, commissions and councils, five judicial appointments, one legislative and one attorney general. Governor Palin averaged one appointment every 1.67 days during 2009.

According to the website Africa Matata, Miss Malawi, Perth Msiska has given up her crown to pursue a career in politics. She cites Sarah Palin as her inspiration….It is also reported that Malawian President, Bingu wa Mutharika was also inspired by John McCain when he picked Joyce Banda as his running mate. Even better, Vice President Banda the first female Veep in Malawi’s history, will look to run as her party’s Presidential candidate in 2013.
