Mark Ballas: Our rehearsals have been a million times better since that first-ever argument with Bristol

Posted by Dr. Fay on October 14, 2012

.

From Mark Ballas’  DWTS blog at USA Today:

All in all, I think it was a successful week, jumping up 4.5 points from last week. Even though we’re still at the bottom of the leaderboard, I was happy with that.

Monday’s episode showed the first-ever argument between Bristol and myself. It’s really hard to capture the full breadth of a 45-minute conversation in a 90-second recap.

CATCH UP: Read Mark’s previous post

A lot of people have been asking why I “missed a rehearsal.” I had a family matter involving my mom that morning, and I did everything a cast member is supposed to regarding a rehearsal cancellation or a time change. I called production and told them I wouldn’t make it and that we should reschedule for that evening. We did make up the lost rehearsal time that night. And thankfully, my mom is doing much better.

On the upside, our rehearsals since then have been a million times better. We are much stronger as a team, and ready to push forward. I love what I do and love doing it for the fans. I always give 100% and am proud to be a member of this cast.

This week’s theme is “Rock ‘n’ Roll,” which is one of my favorite styles and favorite genres of music. In terms of dance style, it calls for a mix of the Lindy Hop, jitterbug and the like. Bristol, however, is finding the speed and over-the-top personality of the dance challenging.

I had to completely change the creative approach and choreography, which is hard because this season is “All-Stars” and the bar has been raised that much higher. I just hope we can push through and make this routine as great as it should be.

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas to dance “rock and roll” for Week 4 on DWTS All Stars

Posted by Dr. Fay on October 9, 2012

Bristol and Mark were declared “safe” during the second elimination on Dancing With The Stars Tonight!  They will be going on to the Week 4 competition.  Congratulations to both of them on a job well done!

Please be sure to tune in next week and vote, vote, vote to help Bristol and Mark go on to Week 5 DWTS and beyond!  We hope they win that mirror ball trophy!

From article by Ann Oldenburg at USA Today:

Time for the first elimination. Would it be Drew or Kirstie?

Season 2 champ Drew Lachey.

“I can honestly say I would not change a thing,” Drew said of his experience on the show. “Everybody questioned why I would come back. I came back because this is fun. I had an amazing partner.” Tom Bergeron gave his “buddy” a hug, while the crowd cheered them.

The dance styles for next week were then revealed. Each couple had 10 seconds to pick a dance for another team.

Here’s how it went:

Bristol and Mark picked for Bollywood style for Gilles and Peta.
Kirstie and Maks, who Brooke casually mentioned were “safe,” picked disco for Sabrina and Louis.
Helio and Chelsie picked Mambo for Shawn and Derek.
Kelly and Val picked Bolero for Emmitt and Cheryl.
Melissa and Tony picked Hip Hop for Apolo and Karina.
Apolo and Karina picked Jitterbug for Melissa and Tony.
Emmitt and Cheryl picked Contemporary for Kelly and Val.
Shawn and Derek picked Broadway for Helio and Chelsie.
Sabrina and Louis picked Charleston for Kirstie and Maks.
Bristol and Mark got Rock and Roll.

But one celeb would not be dancing their chosen dance. Someone was still going home.

[…]

And finally, the second elimination.

Bristol and her partner, USA TODAY blogger Mark Ballas, were safe!

Who was going to get the boot — race car driver Helio Castroneves or Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan?

Helio Castroneves. Aw.

He thanked the racing league for letting him take time off to participate, his family, America and partner Chelsie Hightower. “I couldn’t be happier,” he said. “Thank you.”

Bristol and Mark dance a futuristic Paso Doble for Week 3 of DWTS All Stars

Posted by Dr. Fay on October 9, 2012

Video retrieved from MamaBarracuda

Andrea Rieher at ZAP2it reports:

It was Iconic Dance Week on “Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars” and Bristol Palin andMark Ballas chose to do the futuristic paso doble that Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough did during Season 9.

The dance was very dramatic, but the big drama was happening behind the scenes. Bristol was upset after last week’s critique and started accusing Mark of wanting to be paired with Shawn or Sabrina.

“I feel like you’re bummed that you have me as a partner … you’re like ‘Oh dang, I got paired up with Bristol,'” says Bristol. She also says she thinks Mark wants to go home already.

But they patched things up and were able to channel their energy into their dance, which the judges were very complimentary about.

“The most content I’ve seen in any dance you’ve done and without a doubt the best dance you’ve done,” says Len. And Bruno says, “Bristol, the ice queen with the killer streak. Your lines were better than ever. I liked the concept, your best dance to date.” Carrie Ann adds, “You’re proving yourself a worthy competitor.”

They ended up getting three 7.5s for a total of 22.5.

Governor Palin posted this photo and comment on her Facebook page after the show:

Bristol Palin: Four Ways to Vote for Team Ballin during DWTS Double Elimination Night

Posted by Dr. Fay on October 8, 2012

Posted on Bristol’s Blog today:

Four Ways to Vote for Team Ballin during DWTS Double Elimination Night!

October 8, 2012 By  5 Comments

Did you know that tonight is a special “double elimination night” for Dancing with the Stars? That means two “all star” couples are going home, no matter what.  Mark and I don’t want to be one of them!

If you think Mark and I are the best dancers tonight, then there are four ways to vote.

1. Phone

Please use this official telephone number.  It is:

800-868-3409

Phone lines open as soon as the show starts and stay open for 1 hour after the show.  Fans should try to phone vote as soon as the show starts.  After they dance and at end of the show are the hardest times to get through and we want every single vote.  You can vote on as many phones as you have access to.  For the first half of the season, voters will be allowed the same number votes as the contestants.  For example, this week there will be eleven contestants, so each type of account gets 11 votes.  Once they are down to 5 contestants or less, the fans still get 5 votes per account.

2. Text

AT&T users can text the word “vote” to “3409″ as well.  Once again you get the same number of votes as contestants.  You can text votes and call votes from the same phone.

3. E-mail

You can also e-mail votes online here.  On show nights there will be a vote tab.  You have to have an account to vote online.  You should make your accounts before the show starts because when the show is going the site crawls.  You can vote with as many accounts as you make.

4. Facebook

The final way to vote is by going to the DWTS Facebook app and casting your voteshere!

Spread this information far and wide! Thank you for your support!

  • Happy Columbus Day. Thank goodness for the determination of all bold explorers and innovators—yesterday and today—who don’t let the critics hold them back. May their courage and determination always inspire us to greater heights and encourage us today to seek responsible resource development opportunities.

Speaking of resource development, I’m in California again today and the gas prices here are just ridiculous. One solution to this problem is of course increased exploration domestically in order to tap our plentiful supplies and not let the naysayers hold us back.

I’m in California today to support Bristol. I’m sorry to see that she’s again getting those annoying death threats and more “mysterious white powder” sent to her while on DWTS this All-Star season. These threats sure waste a lot of time, production and public resources; but do the haters really think this will stop Bristol and Mark and the show’s producers from keepin’ on keepin’ on? Silly critics — after all these years of goofy antics like this we find these efforts are actually quite motivating! Bristol’s not letting this get her down. Anyway, tonight is a “double elimination” night, so hopefully everyone who has supported her so far will do so again! I’ll be sure to post the call in number and voting instructions later today before the event. Thank you again to everyone. It means a great deal during this fun and highly competitive event, and it’s sure appreciated!

As Bristol shares with anyone targeted by the naysayers in life: “Hey, the haters will hate anyway; the critics will criticize, so you might as well dance!”

Dancing With The Stars: Week 3, Vote for Bristol & Mark (Updated with SarahNetRadio Interview)

Posted by Jackie Siciliano on October 7, 2012

During week two of Dancing With The Stars, Bristol and Mark were again deemed “safe”.  Once again, many voters wanted to see Bristol and Mark return to dance during week three.  Dancing With The Stars will be on the air Monday, October 8th at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on ABC.  Be sure to tune in then vote to support Bristol and Mark!

Quick recap on how to vote:

Voting information from Mark’s Blog & updated to reflect current information:

The couples dance on Monday nights for a score from the judges. Then the fans vote for their favorite. The judges score counts 50% and the fans 50%. The key to the judges score is that they convert it to a percentage. They take all the scores from the judges and add them together. Then that number is divided into the score for the individual couple. That gives the 50% that counts as the judges scores. Same thing with the fan vote. All the votes are totaled and that number is divided into the couples fan vote. The lowest combined judges scores and fan scores send a couple home.

There will be three ways to vote:

The first is by phone
800-868-3409. The number will remain the same throughout the competition. For example, the first week there will be thirteen contestants, so each type of account gets 13 votes. The second week it will go down to 12. Once they are down to 5 contestants or less, the fans still get 5 votes per account.

ATT users can text their votes by texting the word “vote” to
3409. Once again you get the same number of votes as contestants. It is my understanding you can text votes and call votes from the same phone.

The final way is online. Go to http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/. On show nights there will be a vote tab. You have to have an account to vote online. You should make your accounts before the show starts because when the show is going the site crawls. You can vote with as many accounts as you make.

Dancing with the Stars is definitely a team effort. Bristol and Mark will do the dancing-the fans have to do the voting!

Mark Ballas: Bristol and I will dance the paso for ‘Iconic Dance Week’ on DWTS

Posted by Dr. Fay on October 6, 2012

From Mark’s ‘DWTS’ blog at USA Today:

Last week, we had a rough time with the judges but our awesome and loving fans pulled us through, for which both Bristol and I are super grateful.

It was definitely a challenge doing a country quickstep, but I was happy to try it since dancing to Bristol’s favorite Gretchen Wilson song inspired her. Ultimately, we want to enjoy this process and if it takes a country quickstep, we’re going to do it!

Since my dad’s side of the family is from Houston, shooting guns was not new to me. We had an awesome time and I think Bristol was surprised at how well I handled a revolver! I do have to say, she was a hell of a shot with the shotgun.

[…]

The judges slammed us a little for breaking hold this week, but it’s OK. We wanted to use the song to its full capacity and really capture the country feel. Breaking hold is a risk and you never know whether the judges will let you get away with it. We weren’t the only couple to do it this week, although we were the only couple that paid for it.

As always, we want to thank our fans for keeping us alive to dance another week. It’s never fun to see anyone go home and we will all miss Joey Fatone. He’s is such a goof and so much fun backstage that I know his absence will be noticed.

This week is going to be interesting because the celebrities have creative control and get to choose the theme, the costumes and choose a fan favorite song from past seasons. The theme is “Iconic Dance Week,” which should be pretty fun.

I’m enjoying Bristol’s creative input. So far, it’s been a good time, and a new challenge for her. Our dance is the paso, which was one of her highest-scoring dances last time around, so we shall see how this one goes.

Bristol and Mark dance the quick step to ‘Red Neck Woman’

Posted by Dr. Fay on October 2, 2012

Video retrieved from

Bristol and Mark danced the quick step to “Red Neck Woman” on DWTS All Stars last night.  The judges didn’t seem too pleased with the improvisations in their “Wild West” version of the quick step, so their total score was 18.   Therefore,  it will be up to the voters (and the good Lord) to decide whether Bristol and Mark stay tonight.

Here is what Bristol posted on her blog this morning:

All That Really Matters

October 2, 2012 By  21 Comments

Thanks, Grandma!

We agree.  And we hope that all our votes helped too and that Bristol and Mark will go on for Week 3 of DWTS All Stars!

Mark Ballas: Next week we’ll be dancing the quickstep to Bristol’s favorite song

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 29, 2012

DWTS Ballas Wk1

From Mark Ballas’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ blog:

10:32AM EST September 29. 2012 – Week 1 down, nine to go …

Bristol had such a great first week, and she received the “most improved” award from the judges, which I think is 100% deserved! On the dance floor, she was more outgoing than she has ever been and I firmly believe she’s got even more of that magic in her.

Our next dance is the quickstep, which promises to be a lot of fun because it’s not exactly conventional. At this stage, I’ll do whatever it takes to get Bristol to exude confidence and personality.

MORE MARK BALLAS: Read last week’s entry

TWITTER: Follow Mark @MarkBallas

This week we are dancing to her favorite song. It’s been a bit of a challenge for me because I’ve never danced quickstep to this genre of music, but I’ve never seen her so excited and enthusiastic about dancing. She is loving it and that’s all that matters!

We also did something extra special this week to help get into the spirit of the dance and it was a blast. .. Put it this way: I hit the bull’s-eye quite often, and did it in true Houston fashion!

Bristol and Mark Dance the Cha-Cha-Cha for Their Dance 1 Performance on DWTS

Posted by Dr. Fay on September 25, 2012

Video retrieved from

Bristol and Mark danced a lively Cha-Cha-Cha on DWTS last night.   Governor Palin, husband Todd, and Tripp were spotted in the audience early on and again during Bristol and Mark’s  performance.

Emily Yahr at the Washington Post wrote:

During her performance, Bristol appears to have about 10 times more confidence in one dance than she did in all her dances on the previous season — but that’s possibly what happens when a girl has two more reality shows under her belt. Plus, her whole family came out to support her. We get our first Sarah Palin sighting, sitting in the crowd with her husband, Todd, and Bristol’s son, Tripp, who is adorably covering his ears.

Carrie Ann seems shocked by the performance, and declares Bristol “most improved,” and says she was confident and sassy. Len agrees she had a great deal of confidence, and it’s a great improvement from her last time on the show, though she still has to work on her technique.

Scores: 6.5, 6.5, 6.5 for a total of 19 points.

Here is a backstage photo with comment that Governor Palin posted on her Facebook page afterwards:

Tripp surprised his mama backstage at DWTS tonight. You can vote for Bristol by calling 800-868-3409. AT&T subscribers can text the word VOTE to 3409. You can also vote online at the DWTS website and via Facebook.
