So much for the ‘shoots wolves from helicopters’ myth

Posted by joshpainter on June 11, 2011

Some left wing bloggers may be starting to realize that the Palin emails they fought relentlessly to have released are not the silver bullets they had hoped for to use to destroy the object of their hatred. Information contained in the documents, in fact, provides contradictory evidence to one of the many myths they have perpetuated about Sarah Palin.

The emails shatter the mythological image of a bloodthirsty Sarah Palin, assault rifle in hand, maniacally pursing Alaskan wolves from the skid of a black helicopter, fiendishly laughing as she slaughters the poor creatures. Lefty bloggers have been pushing that one for years. But, according to the liberal Washington Post, the emails prove otherwise:

The governor told her fish and game commissioner in blunt terms that she opposed using state helicopters to hunt wolves and preferred paying private hunters.

“We have to act quickly on this as predators are acting quickly and rural families face ridiculous situation of being forced to import more beef instead of feeding their families our healthy staple of alaskan game. Nonsense. Unacceptable – and not on my watch,” she said.

Her source of information? “Todd interviewed buddies who live out there… Some confirmation that state intervention isn’t first choice w/the locals,” Palin said.”We need to incentivize here,” including providing money for trappers.

Governor Palin did indeed strongly support predator control, and she clearly favored paying hunters a bounty to keep the wolf population in check, but the image of her personally shooting the predators from aircraft has finally been shot down. The emails also show that her motivation for keeping the wolf population at manageable levels was her concern for the welfare of Alaska’s rural families who depend so heavily on caribou and moose, the wolves’ prey, for food and warm clothing.

Another email demonstrates Gov. Palin’s opposition to hunting bears in the McNeil River Bear Sanctuary:

“I am a hunter. I grew up hunting – some of my best memories growing up are of hunting with my dad to help feel (sic) our freezer. I want Alaskans to have access to wildlife…BUT – he’s asking if I support hunting the bears in the sanctuary? No, I don’t… I don’t know any Alaskans who do support hunting the McNeil bears that frequent the viewing area. Many Alaskan and Outside visitors view these animals on the McNeil river, within the sanctuary, and, as my parents have reported back after their viewing trip, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see such beauty on that river.”

Ashley Judd, please pick up the red phone. It’s Defenders of Wildlife on the line, and they’re in panic mode.

Hacker David Kernell goes to camp

The 23-year old son of a Democratic Tennessee state legislator, David Kernell, has begun his term in a dormitory-like, unfenced federal resort prison, a Bureau of Prisons spokesman said Thursday. Kernell was convicted last year of unauthorized access of a computer and obstruction of justice by hacking into Sarah Palin’s e-mail account in September 2008:

Kernell reported on Monday to serve a term of a year and a day at the minimum security facility in Ashland, Kentucky, Bureau of Prisons spokesman Edmond Ross said.

“He’ll be expected to work in food service or landscaping or any number of jobs the staff will assign him,” Ross said. Ross said all inmates must work, if medically cleared.

[…]

Kernell is living in an open dormitory and inmates have access to educational, religious and other types of programing as well as recreational opportunities and social visits with persons who are cleared, Ross said. While there are no fences, all inmates are supervised at all times, Ross said.

Great opportunity to work on his tennis game…

‘Obamacrat’ David Kernell sentenced to 366 days

Posted by joshpainter on November 12, 2010

– by Josh Palinter

A federal judge has sentenced the son of Tennessee state Rep. Mike Kernell (D-Memphis), convicted of hacking Sarah Palin’s e-mail, to one year and one day in federal custody, according to a report by Knoxville television station WBIR:

David Kernell was arrested in 2008 for hacking the former Alaska governor’s e-mail.

He recommended that Kernell serve his time at the Midway Rehabilitative Center on Magnolia Avenue in Knoxville, but that will be determined by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The judge also sentenced Kernell to three years probation.

Kernell will turn himself in at a later date.

Defense attorney Wade Davies had filed motions seeking probation at the sentencing, contending Kernell used publicly available information to guess his way into the e-mail in a prank. Prosecutors said the hacking was motivated by Palin’s status as a governor and candidate for vice president.

Last spring, a federal jury found Kernell guilty of obstruction of justice and unauthorized access in the breach of Sarah Palin’s e-mail this April. He gained access to her account in September 2008.

A former University of Tennessee student, Kernell described himself on his Facebook page as an “Obamacrat.” He was a member of UT for Barack Obama.

A Message from Sarah Palin

Posted by Sarah Palin Web Brigade on December 14, 2009

I was delighted to find in my Inbox just now the e-mail below that Governor Palin sent to her supporters. She reiterates her intentions to “support candidates who share our core values” and to “work on issues that can put America back on the right path.”

Dear Friend,

As the Going Rogue book tour ends, I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of support. At every stop along the way my family and I were treated like members of your family and I can’t tell you how honored and thrilled I was by the opportunity to meet so many of my fellow Americans!

I’ve attached a link to some of our favorite photos from the tour. They reflect the warm feelings and energy that made each of the book signing events so incredibly moving.

After all our travels, it’s even more obvious to me that the winds of change are blowing strong.

At every stop people talked about the need to take our country back. So let’s do it! 2010 is just around the corner and with it will come one of the most critical elections of our lifetime. With important House and Senate races across our nation and dozens of gubernatorial races we have the chance to make a positive difference throughout our country.

I am going to help campaign across our great nation and I’d like your help to do it. If you are able to contribute I will use the SarahPAC donations you place in my trust to support candidates who share our core values, and I’ll work on issues that can put America back on the right path. With your help, we can bring real change to America!

From my family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year.

God Bless the USA!
