Happy Easter! He Lives!

Posted by Dr. Fay on March 31, 2013

Today is the day Christians all over the world celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead after His sacrificial and atoning death on the cross on the day we honor as Good Friday because of the significance of His death.   After two nights in Paradise,  He rose on the third day, making it possible for all who believe in Him to have eternal life.

After His Resurrection, Jesus remained on Earth for 40 days before ascending into Heaven.  He appeared to His disciples and to other followers during that time.  Men like the Apostle Peter who had abandoned Him during His trial were emboldened to risk death and persecution to carry the gospel throughout the known world.  At the end of the 40 days, Jesus ascended to Heaven and now sits at the right hand of His Father.  (See here for a detailed explanation of the Trinity.  I think one of the simplest analogies is that when God made us in His image, He gave us a body, soul, and spirit, yet we are one person.)

Christians believe that Jesus will return to Earth to fight the final battle against the nations that rise against Israel and will then reign on Earth for 1000 years before the final Judgment.  Before that time, we believe that all true believers in Christ, both living and dead, will be caught up to Heaven.  Many believe that we are close to that time for which Christians for centuries have waited in hope.  Jesus spoke in detail of the end times in Matthew 14.   He said that those who endure until the end shall be saved.

We at SPIB want to wish all of our readers and friends a very happy and blessed Easter.  May we remember  that He is with us in the good times and in the tough times and that even as the world around us seems to be coming apart at the seams, He is still in control. Hebrews 13:15.

Great message but Jesus did not spend 2 days in paradise. He descended into hell and on the third day he rose from the dead! Look at the Apostles Creed. I humbly correct this and do not want in any way to take away your message of HOPE! Thanks so much Sarah for these Christian posts. They encourage me very much. Your Sister in Christ, Laura Davis

If not, then why did he tell the thief in Luke 23:42: “Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise”? Obviously, there is some disagreement where exactly Jesus went to. There is a good discussion of these opinions here here:

I am not familiar with the Apostles Creed. The church I grew up in relied strictly on the Bible as God’s Word. I think if Jesus said He was going to be in Paradise, that’s where he went. He may have preached to the tormented souls as well as those on the Paradise side of Hades – we don’t know. There are some mysteries we will never understand until we are in His presence in Heaven.
