Sarah Palin: “Here’s to liberty!” – Think Sam Adams

Posted by Dr. Fay on March 17, 2013

Governor Palin sent out a St. Patrick’s Day greeting today with this message:

After doing a quick Google, it dawned on me the symbolism in Governor Palin’s CPAC  joke about Sam Adams and this latest greeting.  As many may know, the Boston brewery company Samuel Adams is named for Samuel Adams, who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the son of a brewer.  You can find a brief description of his contributions to our country’s founding efforts here.

A little earlier, she retweeted Twitchy’s write-up about the #PalinLibertyPose, which we have written about here.

ACU Video: Gov. Palin’s CPAC 2013 Speech

Posted by Dr. Fay on March 17, 2013

Governor Palin shared a link to this video posted on YouTube by the American Conservatives Union, which sponsors CPAC each year.   (You can visit their website here.)  The video was also posted at SarahPAC yesterday.  This version starts with Senator Ted Cruz’s introduction of Governor Palin.  The archival version posted at CSPAN also includes the introduction by Vanessa (Younes?) of the NRA.

Gov. Palin Posts 8 CPAC Photos; One of Them Sparks a Post-CPAC Fad

Posted by Dr. Fay on March 17, 2013

Governor Palin released 8 photos from her CPAC speech on her Facebook page yesterday.  Last night, Twitchy reported on a fad that was sparked by one of them.  I’ts called the Palin Liberty Pose!

The post-CPAC crowd understood the significance of Governor Palin’s Big Sip:

Tony Lee noted that the liberal NY Magazine got it too.  Here is an excerpt from the article by Dan Amira at NY Mag.

If Sarah Palin understands anything, it’s the theatrics of a speech, and she can get a crowd riled up better than pretty much anyone in the GOP. That’s how it went this afternoon at CPAC, where she launched a fusillade of caustic zingers at President Obama, Washington, and the professional political consultant class. At no point, however, was the packed audience louder than when Palinstuck it to the man by whipping out a Big Gulp full of “pop” (soda) from behind the podium and posing for the cameras while taking a big, freedom-loving sip.

Outside the ballroom afterward, CPAC attendees raved about the stunt. “Hilarious.” “I thought that was awesome.” “I loved that.” One woman I spoke to said the moment “just really symbolized American freedom.” A man named Tomas told me that Palin holding up the Big Gulp “gave a new look to the Statue of Liberty.”
