Romney Campaign “Hires Palin Basher” – That Is No Way To Win 3 Million Palin Supporters

Posted by M.Joseph Sheppard At Palin4President2016 on July 7, 2012

Sarah Palin has over 3 million followers on Facebook. Her last 6 endorsed candidates have won, some against all the odds, like Deb Fischer in Nebraska. There are grumblings about the Romney team lacking the guts to take on president Obama like AT THIS LINK.

So what does team Romney do? Well, according to Stacy Drake at Conservatives4Palin, they hire someone to run their operation who said, according to Drake’s research, of  Palin  during the recent primary  campaign:

[Y]ou’re using a presidential campaign as a vehicle to build a little bit more of a profile as a celebrity, or somebody who’s going to be on TV- somebody’s who’s going to be selling books and giving speeches.”

This alienation of Palin’s mass support is just nutty. Well, good luck to Team Romney as this spreads to her millions of admirers who felt she was given a bum rap, not only by the left but, and especially, was stabbed in the back by the GOP establishment.

Habitual Palin-Basher to Get “Bigger Role” In Romney Campaign

From the New York Times (emphasis):
Kevin Madden, a Republican communications expert with long ties to Mitt Romney, will become a more frequent and visible spokesman for the presidential campaign, a source close to the decision said on Friday.

The increased responsibilities for Mr. Madden came in the wake of criticism from nervous Republicans about Mr. Romney’s campaign team. The Wall Street Journal said in an editorial that the campaign “looks confused in addition to being politically dumb.”

[…]
Mr. Madden was Mr. Romney’s press secretary during the 2008 campaign, appearing frequently on television and serving as the primary foil for the cadre of national political reporters following the candidate.
You will recall that Kevin Madden complained about Governor Palin during an interview with CNN, before the 2008 election had even taken place, in October of that year, saying:

“Look, that is why people who have done this before, people who have run national campaigns, always tend to look at prospective V.P. candidates, and they’re the ones that are nationally vetted, the ones that have been governors on the scene for a long time, the ones that have been — gone through the scrutiny of the national press corps in Washington.”

Amanda Carpenter noted at the time:
Former Romney Spokesman Kevin Madden was particularly harsh on Palin in an interview on CNN. His criticism of Palin is especially noteworthy because we’re only days from the election.
In a spot with Campbell Brown Madden said Palin’s wardrobe flap showed how “unseasoned” Palin is.
Also, according to Erick Erickson (pre anti-Palin era), from October 2008:
When I was in St. Paul for the Republican Convention, I heard more than a dozen people say acolytes of Mitt Romney were feeding all the stories to the media portraying Palin in a negative light.
In fact, I heard that one of the biggest pushers of anti-Palin stories, including encouraging reporters to pursue the “Trooper-gate” story was Romney spokeshack Kevin Madden.

I did not blog on it at the time because I perceived it to be people trying to finish off Romney. It likewise seemed clear to me that if this was going on, it was people loyal to Romney who were still hoping for his come back and not Romney himself.

In 2011, Madden took a shot at Governor Palin, telling CBS News:

[Y]ou’re using a presidential campaign as a vehicle to build a little bit more of a profile as a celebrity, or somebody who’s going to be on TV- somebody’s who’s going to be selling books and giving speeches.

Keep in mind that this was FIVE months before Governor Palin made her final decision not to seek the presidency. Governor Palin was still in the process of contemplating a run at that point. To suggest that she was using the presidential election to boost her profile, is to not understand how large her profile is. Madden was obviously trying to “poison the well” by suggesting to Republican voters that her motives for mulling a White House bid were insincere. It was an underhanded thing to do.
So, what are the odds that many of the “anonymous” attacks against Governor Palin from team Romney, actually came directly from Kevin Madden? If you look at his history of on-air statements, and his reputation, it’s not a very far-fetched notion.
The Romney campaign is trying to give off the appearance that they are getting their camp in order to settle the stomachs of GOP donors. Perhaps elevating an individual, who is known to many base Conservatives an an under-handed, trash-talking opportunist,  isn’t the best way to go about that. In fact, you might consider that a “politically dumb” move.

  1. From what I had read earlier than this and if Sarah herself sat down with you candidly there were worse than Madden by far that were centered around Steve Schmidt and some of his neocons who think they are smart and she is dumb. No she is just good-hearted and they are like stones! And she makes a better candidate and governor BECAUSE she has heart. Her many interviews on Fox have been great to watch because, feeling at ease with them, she has shown great ideas, great smarts and i think even wisdom of the common sense kind which is a gift. And THEY were too stupid to see it. But those creeps – and ever notice how they look, Madden included, like clones of Romney – that’s scary! And i think its one of the reasons I’ll be surprised if Romney wins. But these types the same people deliberately got a whispering campaign on in the 2008 convention to make her look bad – Romney was bitter HE wasn’t offered the VP slot and many of them were jealous that Sarah was chosen. Sarah is a chosen person – that can over-achieve because God is their strength, His grace and power – and she knows that – and that faith she has really ticks the unbelievers off…

You’ve raised an interesting point – one that we haven’t discussed much in recent times, but one worth considering: Romney may well, indeed, have been “bitter” that HE wasn’t chosen (instead of Palin) by McCain for the VP slot, but now he has the nod – so, what will he do with it?

I find it fascinating that neither Palin nor Romney mentions the other (except Palin does, sort of, in passing, and in a very detached way). It’s probably the big elephant in the living room: She’s NOT about to squander her own personal political capital – even on the GOP nominee – unless and except under the RIGHT conditions – conditions that SHE deems “right,” too!

One other point: Even if Romney wins the Election AND the Congress is GOP- majority, I’m not altogether confident that Romney will find his “inner Goldwater!!” I think he’ll surround himself with GOPe types that, sadly, STILL want (and feel a need to) marginalize Palin in the new administration. If that happens, I hope & pray that Palin starts to REALLY “go rogue” and begin to lead the long-anticipated – and VERY MUCH NEEDED! – American Conservative Movement to counter the progressivism of BOTH rotten parties!!

Whatever happens, and whoever our candidate is, we must do as the Democrats have done for their candidate and vote as a SOLID BLOCK for our candidate and AGAINST OBAMA , no matter who our candidate is or how personally offensive some of you may find them ! This is like Triage, the first thing we must do, is Eliminate the threat to our way of life by voting obama out ! Then we can start bending and shaping our candidate into what we want them to be, by sending a Conservative Congress to support our views and promote safe and sane legislation that will repeal and reverse the effects of Obamacare and the terrible decision of the Supreme Court ! We must then put obama, holder, biden, franks, schumer, hillary, dodd, franks, rangel, leahy, durbin, levin and all the other crooks in prison for treason and everything else they have done. We must get out of the UN and get the UN out of America. Get the Muslims out of our government in every office they hold. We must clean out our court system of all the liberal judges and replace them with honest AMERICAN judges who will rule according to the US Constitution and no other laws, international, sharia, or anybody else’s.

I look at it this way the Bankers that both finance Obama and Romney are purposely trying to throw this election for another Obama win. The elite bankers have control and we are just the pongs in their chess game. Sorry but Ron Paul is not out of the race yet I am giving him my support!!!!

If Romney hires this anti-Palin [redacted] he is committing election suicide!!!!!!!!!

  5. This just further enforces the fact, to me, that the Republican party has become nothing more than the “Lesser of 2 evils”, but it does not surprise me, I never trusted Romney that much!

Sad to say, your thoughts are exactly what many of us feel to be the absolute truth. The R party has let we conservatives down so badly in recent years our only hope is that the voters on both sides can see the irreparable damage Obama and his anti-American cronies will do to our country with a four year lame-duck presidency. Romney may be far from the ideal candidate, but he wasn’t raised a communist, he’s not a muslim apologist . . . . he is an American.

Thanks (??) for posting this “expose,” MJS, on that turd, Kevin Madden – it’s good/important to know, but it’s also just another disgusting detail that reveals the shallowness of the man we’re entrusting to unseat the Obamanation! Honestly, the more I see of/hear about Team Romney, the less I like the whole enterprise!

One thing’s for certain, he’s not getting one thin dime from THIS dyed-in-the-wool Palin Conservative!! As the race heats up (and if I have any extra change left over from this rotten economy), I’ll do as I’ve done before: Send $$ to SarahPAC for HER endorsees!

I will vote for Romney because ANYBODY but Obama. The GOP establishment, Bill O’Reilly, Mike Huckabee, & most others at Fox pushed him down Conservative viewers throats. I voted for Newt in the FL primary. I fear the GOP establishment will blow this election too.
