NBC’s Today Show turns to Palin to revive ratings

Posted by loricalabrese on April 2, 2012

The former Governor of Alaska has delivered many surprises since she was announced as John McCain’s vice-presidential pick in 2008 and tomorrow, Palin will raise eyebrows once again as she will debut as a one-day co-host for NBC’s Today Show. The Today Show website states, “Sarah Palin will co-host Tuesday. She’ll reveal a different side of her than you’ve seen before.”

Palin does have anchor experience from her college days as a sportscaster and her recent experience as a FOX News contributor will certainly help. However, what makes this news exciting to everyone is the fact that Palin’s Today show appearance will be competing with Katie Couric, currently filling in for Robin Roberts on Good Morning America. As you remember, the media loves to play up the interview Couric did with Palin during the 2008 election when Couric asked the former Governor what newspapers she read for information.

On Breitbart News, Palin was asked about going head-to-head with Couric.

“Game on,” Palin replied.

While many see the time slot as Palin vs. Couric Round Two, many also see it as NBC vs. CBS, which continues to be in a ratings war. The last time GMA beat Today in ratings was in December 1995, however, they keep inching closer and, in the most recent week for which ratings are available, GMA came in only about 140,000 viewers shy of Today.

So will NBC continue to be #1 in the ratings war with such a shocking move?

“I see this as a good opportunity to bring an independent, common-sense conservative perspective to NBC,” Palin also stated on Breitbart news. “We’re ‘going rogue’ and infiltrating some turf for a day.”

Unlike other media outlets who will be focused on the Couric-Palin match-up, I’m most interested in seeing how Palin does infiltrate the turf she’s labeled as the lamestream media. Remember it was the Today show that touted an “exclusive” interview in 2010 with author Joe McGinniss, who accused Palin of overreacting to his presence when he moved in next door to ‘research’ a Palin expose. The Today Show reached out to Palin for her comments on the issue, but failed to air them, presenting a one-sided story. As a result, Palin lambasted the Today show in a Facebook post, “Is It Any Wonder Why We Call them Lame?”  Palin praised social networking and new media sites that have allowed people to get around the ‘lamestream’ media and present the facts.

“Freedom of the press is integral to our democracy, but reporters must be held accountable because with power comes responsibility,” Palin said in the note. “A corrupt, deceptive, and manipulative media can ruin the lives of good people, disrupt families, destroy reputations, and ultimately hurt our country.”

So it looks as though the gloves are off and Palin has the opportunity to demand integrity from the same media that has a hateful obsession with her. And does anyone else find it ironic that the Today Show, one of the media outlets that has an insatiable desire to beat and beat and beat Palin has chosen to enlist her services to revive their ratings? There’s so much involved with Palin’s appearance on The Today Show and if Palin can withstand the liberal media bias, she may accomplish what many of us have wanted for a very long time besides a woman in the White house–a mainstream conservative anchor woman.

I just think the whole experience is/will be awesome! I have every confidence in that most confident of individuals, Sarah Palin, to just be a great commonsense Conservative spokesperson, whether talking about politics, interviewing/talking with a guest about some everyday issue – or just “schmoozing” with the Today Show cast.

The haters, of course, are out in force; and it’s been both infuriating and amusing to watch the libturds totally implode over the news that their “safe” morning show will be invaded by what they firmly believe/perceive to be “the enemy” – Satan incarnate!! Love it!! They are SO stoopid and intolerant! No wonder Breitbart gave them the nickname of the “Tolerant Left!!”

I lost count how many pledged to NOT watch the show – or, in fact, leave Today for GMA altogether!! Reminded me of the empty promises the idiots on the Left made if Bush were to be re-elected: “I’ll LEAVE this country!!” Most unfortunately, they never made good on their empty promises…

I replied to a particularly nasty comment on HuffPo, “Pound sand!!”
