Rush Limbaugh: ‘You’re letting the media win with that outlook’

Limbaugh properly explains to Vinny from Queens why the media wins if we allow them to destroy Sarah Palin or stop her from running

In an unbelievable call that shows how in complete “sympatico” I am with Rush Limbaugh on why we must not allow the media stop Sarah Palin, Rush and a caller named Vinny from Queens had an incredible conversation Friday afternoon on Limbaugh’s radio show. Rush said these things to Vinny:

What you basically said to me was, “The media has so thoroughly destroyed her, she doesn’t have a chance.”

…why are you gonna sit there and accept that?

Conventional wisdom inside the Republican Party is that she’s not running. Now, I’ll say this: If she’s afraid to run, then the media terrorists have won.

And just think, now, how power-mad they’re going to be if they decide they can destroy any candidate they choose — and make no mistake here: Their objective is to keep her out of this race. Just, um… I don’t know. Just in a — what’s the right way to say this? In a philosophical, real world sense, it just bothers me to hear people, anybody. It’s not just Vinny; I’ve had a lot of people say this to me, and I’ve gotten into raised-voice arguments with people at my own dinner table over this, so much so that Kathryn pointed me to the door to leave.

People started telling me how stupid she was, Palin. I asked, “Why do you think she’s stupid?” Everything they believe is a total product of what they’ve seen in the media. Therefore, people are willing to sit around and say, “Okay, media destroyed her. Too bad, she’s gone.” Yet we’re supposedly sophisticated. We understand that’s what the media’s trying to do, and we’re just saying, “Okay, they won. They won with Palin, fine.” If that’s it then don’t ever call me again complaining about the media. If you’re willing to let the media win in taking our people out, fine. Stop complaining about ’em. Stop complaining about ’em being liberal.

Rush landed every single point that I have been trying to make about the media and Sarah Palin. After I duct taped my head back together during the news break, Rush came back on and gave this phenomenal analysis of the discussion:

I am still thinking about the phone call we had with Vinny from Queens. I’m sorry, folks. I can’t get past this. This is not aimed at Vinny, ’cause it’s not just Vinny from whom I’ve heard this. I just can’t get past this: “Rush, the media has destroyed her. There’s no hope. She’s damaged goods, and average, ordinary people who are not even paying attention yet still think she’s an absolute goof. We don’t have a prayer. We gotta move on.” It just grates on me to acknowledge that kind of defeat. You may think it’s just acknowledging reality, but it’s defeat. ‘Cause I was always under the impression here that one of our objectives is to not let the media do this to us.

Now, I know that a lot of people think that they’re the only ones who know what the media has done to Sarah Palin. But odds are if Vinny from Queens sees that the media has launched this search-and-destroy mission on her, a lot of other people probably have, too. At some point the media smear of anybody peaks. They either get ’em out of office or they don’t. In Nixon’s case, he was gone. But Palin is enjoying life. She’s got this bus tour. That’s why I said on Greta’s show last night, “Palin has learned to throw it right back at ’em.” You’ve heard the old adage, the best revenge is success. She’s earning a good living. She’s living life as she chooses, where she chooses. They are as angry that they haven’t forced her into an insane asylum as anything else.

At some point, folks, the smear of Palin has to peak. The smear of anybody has to peak. And the more people see her in relation to what they’ve heard from the media, the odds are more and more people are gonna realize they’ve been lied to. It’s like when people meet me in person. Some of them are genuinely shocked. They’re expecting me to be whatever they’ve heard the media portray me as. So at some point people are gonna realize the media has been lying about her. And I’m not making the case for it, because I don’t know whether she’s running. I’m not endorsing anybody right now. Vinny’s not the first guy to say it, but when I hear people say, “The media’s destroyed her, Rush, we gotta move on,” it just bothers me. I thought that’s what we’re trying to prevent here along with many other things.

Rush nailed it.

Yes America, Sarah Palin Was Invited To Rolling Thunder

On Friday we published an article talking about patriot riders of Rolling Thunder praising Sarah and Todd Palin’s acceptance to ride in their event Sunday to raise awareness of former P.O.W.s and those still missing in action.

Rolling Thunder is a wonderful organization full of real patriots, and Sarah Palin, the mother of an Iraq War veteran, as well as a former Commander-in-Chief of two military forces supports the military, and military charities regularly.

Sadly, Rolling Thunder’s “legislative director,” Ted Shpak, instead of checking with others, ran to the nearest MSNBC cameras and started trash talking.

Long story short, Shpak created a real mess. Even as we reported Nancy Regg had confirmed days ago that Sarah and Todd had been invited, the damage to the organization, and Sarah Palin’s reputation was being done.

Now it seems Rolling Thunder’s media director, Christine Colborne, has set the record straight. Yes, Sarah and Todd were invited to ride. Ed Morrissey at Hot Air was able contact Colborne and set the record straight:

After I read this story last night, I got in contact with Christine Colborne, who handles the media for Rolling Thunder. She explained that Shpak didn’t know that Palin had been indeed invited to ride at the event. The invitation came from a retired board member, Michael DiPaolo, who had connections in Alaska and got Palin to agree to attend.

Requests for high-profile personalities to attend the event are not new. Colborne mentioned that actor Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) attended at least one of the Rolling Thunder events, as have other celebrities, usually just to ride with a lower profile. Most times, though, those requests don’t even get responses, let alone acceptances. That’s a shame, because the Rolling Thunder event highlights the issues surrounding American POWs and MIAs from the Vietnam War and later conflicts, as well as providing support to their families, who really need the emotional support they get from this group of volunteer veterans.

Colborne spoke with me on the phone in the middle of an all-night car ride to Washington DC, and explained that the last-minute RSVP didn’t get communicated through the echelons of Rolling Thunder. Everyone is either in transit or already in DC, and internal communication broke down as often happens before a major event. Shpak (and Colborne) were taken by surprise by Palin’s announcement. Shpak does have the authority to speak for the organization, Colborne says, but he had no idea that Palin was invited by DiPaolo, and Shpak worried that Palin’s arrival might be a “big distraction” from the issues on which Rolling Thunder wants people to focus. Obviously, Shpak — a Vietnam veteran himself — feels passionate about defending the organization, but went on NBC with faulty information. Shpak, Colborne, and almost everyone else at Rolling Thunder are volunteers, just ordinary people doing extraordinary work, and that means they get the occasional hiccup.

Ed is too kind. Having worked events that need coordination, and a bit of media savvy, one thing I learned the hard way is to never go shooting one’s mouth off before one has all the facts.

Now I may be wrong, maybe Shpak made a good faith effort to contact someone…. anyone …. to see if the Palin’s had been invited, and got no answer, or even a faulty answer. What I don’t get though is why Shpak went directly to the most far left “news” organization on the planet to spout off. What purpose did it serve? Having a high profile leader attending your event is not a “big distraction.” The reason people like Sarah Palin are invited to these events is to help spotlight them. BTW, these events are open to any and all, and no invitation is needed.

Now we have an entire issue surrounding an event that is all about honoring our nation’s heroes.

The members who ride with Rolling Thunder are incredible. They do great work. That’s why this entire event makes me sad.

I could go on and on about speculating if Shpak has a political agenda.I could speculate why Shpak went to MSNBC, a company whose CEO is in bed with the Obama regime, and runs hit pieces on Sarah Palin daily. I could also go on and on about the amount of positive attention having a world leader like Sarah Palin in attendance brings. What I really want to know though is who does Sarah Palin need to see to get her reputation back?

“The Other McCain” Upgrades Palin From Not Running To Not Running Traditionally

 “The Other McCain” blog, which is an opinion leader (if not the opinion leader) on the right with millions of blog hits has a post up by Stacy McCain’s blogging partner “Smitty” which effectively states that Palin is running.

“I’m upgrading my Sarah Palin prediction from “not not running” to “not running a traditional campaign”

This comment marks a further step in the right-wing blogetariat-the only political comment group worth reading now that the traditional media and the left wing “Politico” type outlets are resorting to “someone close to Palin said” as they have been shut out of the loop and reduced to “makin’ things up” as Palin says.

The “responsible” right wing bloggers (whether Palin  supporters or not) have the benefit of not being inflicted by PDS, and not wearing blinkers, so they can see what is front of their noses. 

The left sees Palin’s bus tour, her movie, her blitz of the Fox studios for what they obviously are and, like Smitty, are turnin their attention to what sort of candidate she will make and other important, realistic considerations.

On unexpected result of the media’s Palin obsession has been their own self-destruction as a vehicle of integrity-they have sown the wind and reaped the whirlwind as another embattled, out of favor politician, who came back from being derided and saved his country-Winston Churchill- said.

A Traditional Campaign

I’m upgrading my Sarah Palin prediction from “not not running” to “not running a traditional campaign”. Ann Althouse looks at the scoffings of the Romney and Pawlenty campaigns, griping that Sarah is not following the conventional path, and then invokes Fred Thompson.
Ah, Fred.
The interesting question becomes whether the GOP will, petulantly, scuttle the chances of ejecting BHO rather than fall in behind a potential Palin candidacy. In other words, will the commitment to the traditional, broken, Ruling Class way be stronger in the GOP than the desire to, you know, live up to the party’s ideals?
The fact that this question even forms in the mind is why I’m pleased notto be a registered Republican. About as useful as the DOE, they are.

Todd and Sarah may ride with the Rolling Thunder vets (Updated)

Blue Star parents Todd and Sarah Palin may be riding with tens of thousands of Rolling Thunder veterans Sunday:

The former Alaska governor, who is the subject of a lot of overheated speculation about whether she will run for president in 2012, has accepted an invitation to participate in the annual Rolling Thunder memorial ride this Sunday, an official says.

“As far as I know, she is trying to rent a motorcycle, so she can ride with her husband,” said Nancy Regg, a spokeswoman for Rolling Thunder.

Gregg says the tentative plan is for Palin to join up with the ride at the Pentagon at 7 a.m. The ride kicks off at noon, and hundreds of bikers will snake through D.C. to the event’s main stage, which will be between the Reflecting Pool and the Korean War Veterans Memorial on the Mall. The program is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.

Gregg said Palin is currently not scheduled to speak at the event and watchers should not expect any type of “political statement” from Palin during Rolling Thunder.

Warning, Todd: Speaking from personal experience, riding a motorcycle can be downright addictive. If you rent a chunk of American Iron for the RT ride, you might just want to get your own Harley or Victory (Arctic Cat doesn’t build two-wheelers, AFAIK) for surfing the Maricopa County roads. The temptation is greater, of course, in Arizona, where one can ride all year long, unlike Alaska, where motorcycles have to hibernate for 7 to 10 months out of ever 12.

But one scoot is never enough. How about his and hers Harleys? Maybe even get one of them fitted with a side car so Trig and Piper can enjoy the ride, too. Then perhaps a dirt bike for the desert… Whatever you do, don’t get a copy of Bruce Brown’s “On Any Sunday” DVD. To watch Steve McQueen jumping the sand dunes on his 400 Husqvarna is nothing less than inspirational…

Update: An FYI for Palin-hatin’ leftist liar Andrea Mitchell of MSPDS – Sarah and Todd Palin were invited to participate in the ride.

Obama’s Strange Strategy: Borrow Foreign Money to Give to Foreign Countries

Governor Palin today posted on Facebook:

Should we be borrowing money from China to turn around and give it to the Muslim Brotherhood?

Given that we are running massive deficits and are drowning in more than $14 trillion in debt, and despite not knowing who will rule Egypt until its election this fall, this strange strategy may be the end result given President Obama’s announcement that he is committing $2 billion to Egypt’s “new government.” It’s part of a $20 billion foreign aid package laid out with the Group of 8 countries in Europe today.

Now, given that Egypt has a history of corruption when it comes to utilizing American aid, it is doubtful that the money will really help needy Egyptian people. Couple that with the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is organized to have a real shot at taking control of Egypt’s government, and one has to ask why we would send money (that we don’t have) into unknown Egyptian hands?

Throwing borrowed money around is not sound economic policy. And throwing borrowed money around the developing world is not sound foreign policy. Foreign assistance should go to American allies that need it and appreciate it, and for humanitarian purposes when it can truly make a difference.

Considering the Obama Administration’s continued strange strategies on the economy and foreign policy have us counting down the days to the next election. November 2012 can’t come soon enough.

Give Him His Due-Chris Matthews Gives Constructive Review Of Palin’s Possible Run

Chris Matthews, surprisingly, in fact astonishingly, gives a wide ranging  “fair and balanced’ presentation on Sarah Palin and her new, 2012 run, activity. Discussing with  GOP and Dem operatives Matthews canvasses Palin’s forthcoming bus tour and movie.

Matthews gives due credit to Palin for her outstanding qualities-public speaking and energizing mass crowds and, again remarkable for MSNBC, states she won her debate with Biden on points and concludes that he wishes her to be the nominee-not for the usual cynical reasons we hear from the left media “she’d eb a laughingstock and an easy beat for Obama-but because she would add color and excitement compared to “the three male stooges”.

Credit where it is due Mr Matthews-well done and lets hope this is a harbinger of things to come-perhaps the Schultz disaster has sent a message to MSNBC or Matthews has decided to rise above the herd and be a statesman amongst broadcasters-we can only hope.

Palin Is This Generation’s JFK.Like Him She Will Ignore The Elitists And Win

As a “recovering liberal” who cut his (milk) teeth in politics a volunteer for JFK’s campaign in the New York campaign HQ this column by “conservativecurmudgeon” which recently appeared at Red State is highly evocative. However, more important that my memories is the very real connection between the challenges JFK faced in his presidential campaign and the lessons for the Palin campaign.The author makes the clear connection that Palin, like JFK, has to run an unorthodox campaign and not only not listen to the beltway experts (who hate her) but bypass them altogether.

Hmmm… ‘Tis something in the Wind that makes me think Sarah Palin might be this Generation’s JFK…

Oh, I know, I know: This opens me up to the hackneyed Lloyd Bentsen trope about knowing John Kennedy, and you, Sarah Palin, are no John Kennedy… To which, one hopes, she would answer, “You’re right. I never cheated on my spouse, got involved with the Mob, and my Daddy never bought me a Pulitzer Prize.”

But, the analogy is this:

JFK created a whole new set or rules, a whole new road-map to the Presidential nomination of his party in 1960. And, we may be witnessing the same thing, fifty years later, from Sarah Palin.

John Kennedy went after the Vice Presidential nomination in 1956, in a failed attempt to be Adlai Stevenson’s running mate. It wasn’t so much that he was unsuccessful (the nomination went to Estes Kefauver instead), but what he learned along the way in setting himself up for his parties’ Presidential nomination in 1960.

What he learned was this: The grandees of the Democrat Party would not, under any circumstances, allow a Catholic on the national ticket. The Dixie-crats in particular where antipathetic. But, even the East Coast Elite found the young JFK too much to take: Eleanor Roosevelt, in particular, found him loathsome (as, among other things, the second son of the then-reviled Joseph Kennedy), calling him “that little piss-ant”.

Believe me, pre-1964, you went absolutely nowhere in national Democrat politics without the blessing of Eleanor Roosevelt. Think of her (before her death) as Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Jesse Jackson, Barack Obama, Pinch Sulzberger and John Kerry all rolled into one big, fat ball of influence.

This put the entire power structure of the old New-Deal bosses out of reach to Senator Jack Kennedy. Now, remember, this was in the days before the ubiquitous state primary elections. Roughly half the states chose their nominee based on a caucus of the party bigwigs, New York in particular. Chatting up the friends of Eleanor Roosevelt called for the retail politics that JFK and his family money had a hard time acquiring. So, JFK, having learned that his resources were better spent on the Wholesale politics of advertising, media manipulation and advance men, focused instead on the Wholesale politics– the popular elections held in Primary states.

Prior to JFK, most serious presidential politicians rather avoided the primary states. They accounted, at that time, for a minority of the delegates, and it made the election season somewhat longer and much more expensive. It required actual campaigning, movement, travel and advertising– things most presidential aspirants in the mid 20th-century had little of. JFK changed all that. Among other things, Jack Kennedy was the first to introduce the phenomenon of his own Campaign Jet, the “Caroline“. He could go as easily between Washington and San Francisco as Hubert Humphrey could go from Madison to Milwaukee.

Kennedy by-passed paying attention to Roosevelt and her tong. Instead, he spent his time in Wisconsin and West Virginia, slurping up chits in the form of donations to local races, and flooding the field with advertising and public relations. Hubert Humphrey complained that going up against JFK and his money made him feel like “a mom and pop grocery store going up against A&P”. These were the two states with early significant Primaries, and he knew he’d have a shot in heavily Catholic Wisconsin, which came first on the slate, and a week later in West Virginia, where his World War Two veteran status would come in handy. If he could make a big stink out of winning these primaries early, he’d have a shot at convincing the party leaders in the other, non-primary contests.

He won both states handily, and changed forever the way the public, and the party big-shots, looked at presidential primaries. And Elanor Roosevelt was politely shown the back of the bus.

Sarah Palin knows that any conservative won’t get an even break in the national press and media. She knows they despise not only her –and they show their contempt gleefully and openly with Sarah– they hate all conservatives. So trying to suck up to them can only lead (sooner or later) to any conservative’s Katie Couric moment. It is assured.

So, in watching her in the news coverage over the last forty-eight hours, we might be witnessing a “revolutionizing” of the way the whole process is done–; Just like JFK.

Just as JFK knew he’d never get the Eleanor Roosevelt gang on his side, and he would thus have to figure out how to get the nomination without it, Sarah Palin knows she can’t use the old routes that involve the national press and media. They are off-limits to her. She must plow a new and untrod road.

I have sense, too, that this might be all very deliberate, cunning, and months in the planning. And in this thought process, she might actually be ten steps ahead of all the other potential candidates.

If I were her, and had the name recognition, the league upon league of mis-perceptions, and the financial and personnel resources, I think I might try to fashion a similar approach– that is, something that up-ends the way a nominee is chosen in totality.

In especial, I find it fascinating that all the Ed Gillespies, and the Karl Roves, and all the other antique professional party-men had already decided she wasn’t running because she was evidently eschewing the fifty-year old nostrums that simply everyone must follow to the nomination. It reminds me of the Polaroid people telling everyone not to buy a digital camera because you’ll need a computer to use it: They couldn’t see the future while it was happening in front of their faces.

Wouldn’t it be fascinating, though, to see Sarah Palin completely revolutionize the way a candidate connects with the public, and change forever the 2-year long process of finding a nominee. I don’t know what she’s got up her sleeve, but, I will say this:

It could be damned fun to watch, especially if she leaves the national, old-geezer media gasping for air in her wake… Just like Eleanor Roosevelt was left by JFK back in 1960.

Bristol Dating Rumor Refudiated

According to to website Rumor Fixed:

The National Enquirer is living in la la land this week with a ludicrous report that Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey are secretly dating.

“Sarah Palin and daughter Bristol are at war over Bristol’s new boyfriend – Disney cutie patootie Kyle Massey!”

Bristol, 20, and Kyle, 19, became friends when they appeared on last season’s Dancing with the Stars and secretly began dating.

And sources say their relationship is what led to the new BIO Channel reality show featuring Bristol, Kyle and Kyle’s big brother Chris.

RumorFix can confirm that the two did become friends while on Dancing, and they are shooting a reality show together, but anything beyond that is completely fictitious.

RumorFix, unlike some people, decided to check up on this rumor by reaching out to Kyle’s mother, Angel. She tells us the Enquirer report is bologna.

“They are not dating,” she reveals while laughing. “They’re good friends. I understand the media wants to push sales or whatever, but no, they’re not dating.”

Angel goes on to say, “Both of our families gelled during Dancing with the Stars. Sarah would be in the audience cheering for Kyle, and we’d be in the audience rooting for Bristol. We all became close.”

Mama Massey adds, “The Palins are really funny, nice and genuinely warm to us.”

Palin announces national bus tour

After the announcement of a debut film, Sarah Palin has also announced a national bus tour. Palin will hit the road on Sunday in what some are dubbing the possible beginning of a 2012 presidential bid.

As stated on the SarahPac website, “This Sunday, May 29th, Governor Palin and the SarahPAC team will begin a trip through our nation’s rich historical sites, starting from Washington, DC and going up through New England. The “One Nation Tour” is part of our new campaign to educate and energize Americans about our nation’s founding principles, in order to promote the Fundamental Restoration of America.”

The tour could set a possible tone for Palin’s run–a tone of restoration. On the SarahPac website, Palin says, “I’ve said many times that America doesn’t need a “fundamental transformation,” instead we need a restoration of all that is good and strong and free in America! So, together let’s prepare ourselves for the days ahead by reminding ourselves who we are and what Americans stand for.”

Although the former Governor of Alaska has not announced her presidential intentions, many signs are pointing to yes. A film highlighting Palin’s tenure as Governor of Alaska will debut in Iowa next month; the Palins have reportedly purchased a home in Scottsdale, Arizona, which many see as Palin’s future campaign headquarters; the SarahPac website was redesigned; and Palin told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News’ On the Record that she has that fire in her belly.

Other details of the tour have yet to be released, but one thing’s for sure, Palin supporters are clamoring to find out the exact stops.
