Clowns, Cowboys, and a Contender

Governor Palin tweeted the following earlier:
We’re $14,000,000,000,000+ in debt, yet rodeo clowns still want to fund Cowboy Poetry Party. That must be 1 helluvahigh natl priority shindig
In case you were wondering what that was all about, let me fill you in. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is quite concerned that cuts in federal spending will lead to a devastating bye-bye to the annual cowboy poetry festival in Nevada. No need to rub your eyes; you read it right the first time.
If you’d like to actually listen to and see the Senator discussing this, here you go, courtesy of Fox Nation:
Let’s face it, folks. Some people just don’t get it. They missed the message the emergence of the Tea Party delivered, they missed the message the November mid-term elections sent, and they have obviously missed the message that we are in enormous debt as a nation.
Look, I’m an English Language Arts teacher and a poet myself. I appreciate rhythm and rhyme as much as the next person, but come on…the cowboy poetry festival?!
Governor Palin always stands head and shoulders above the rest because she always calls a spade a spade–or a clown a clown. Haters complain she’s not playing nicely enough, or biting her tongue enough, or looking the other way enough–and thank God, they’re right. She’s not. We have enough so-called conservatives and 2012 GOP potentials doing that already. We need a leader–a real contender–who is willing to call out the clowns in Congress, someone with a proven record and a commitment to fiscal responsibility. We need Governor Palin.

Is anybody home on Capital Hill? Hello? America is facing some serious issues here and the poety contest can wait. Read the ‘American Forces Press Service’ info: WASHINGTON, March 10, 2011 – “Concepts of security are changing, and it is just as important to invest in diplomacy and development as it is to invest in service members and their equipment, Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn III told the Senate Budget Committee today.
Lynn and Deputy Secretary of State for Management Tom Nides testified together before the committee. It marked the first time the two departments had testified about their budgets together, and it underscored the strong partnership that exists between them, Lynn said.
“We at DOD view the security assistance activity as a vital instrument that can prevent or attenuate instabilities that otherwise might draw the United States into conflicts,” Lynn said. “If properly applied in a timely manner, security assistance is likely to be more decisive and less costly than direct military intervention after a problem has become a crisis. Our cooperation with the State Department is, therefore, an important component of our national defense.”
Lynn called on the senators to fully fund the State Department’s fiscal 2012 budget request of $59.5 billion. The request includes funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development.
The two men testifying together mirrored what happens daily around the world, as soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines often work side by side with State Department and USAID personnel.”
Combine that with NATO’s current consideration that will probably involve our family members in the U.S.Armed Forces:

BRUSSELS, Belgium, March 10, 2011 – NATO’s defense ministers share concern about Moammar Gadhafi’s escalating attacks on the Libyan people and have agreed to plan for all military options, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said here today.
There are precious few U.S.Senators and Representatives struggle with these real world issues. We need a President whose agenda can refocus the rest of them.

Amen. After 45 years of voting and feeling fortunate if the politician I voted for actually did anything for his/her constituents, Gov. Palin’s earnest efforts have eased my panic. As a retired Army Ranger(22 years) I look back and wonder if all I fought for was in America’s best interest. Sarah loves her country with the enthusiasm so many soldiers do. Old soldiers can recognize something in her: human issues that she thinks need to be set right, which become goals that have given her life purpose. Many of us old soldiers don’t trust civilians because they often appear goalless (hey, I like that word), selfish & self serving with no reason to get up in the morning except to play a video game. Certainly only lip service is given to sacrificing a life for… anything.
Sarah Palin helps us believe in the rural people of America. There are many parallels to her career and a Ranger’s. She started with nothing more than being athletic and full of righteous indignation at how things didn’t work in her community. It helps if you are also intelligent enough to know you don’t know enough to fix anything yet. Rangers grow thru Basic Training, then advance to a specific occupational skill (like her, some become Communicators), then courage is seriously tested with Airborne School. There are no short cuts and no one else to carry your rifle and ruck. You make mistakes and fall often as you push thru the training. You can fail and you can quit but you can’t fake it. Palin did it right. From athlete, college Communications degree and right to work. Then as elected City Council member, Municipal Mayor, to State Governor her determination to fix the broke parts of her community had real purpose. Her Ranger School was the Vice Presidential candidate process she went thru. Not everyone who completes Ranger training gets to be assigned a place in a Ranger Battalion. But it is THE school, with Big Boy Rules, and graduates are changed forever. If you stay in the military after Ranger School you want to fix the disorganization of every Unit you touch. Much is improved with the unit Ranger refocusing the Lazy and Selfish Non-producers. Palin came out of that Vice Presidential bid with surprising clarity of purpose and a superhuman drive to help refocus some broken politics. She listened to the concerns / complaints of her “…lack of international savvy…” and still constantly devours histories of financial-political-terrorism that would put any Ph.D. student to shame. No working Ranger feels like he ever knows enough…’what motivates the enemy?’… ‘what are his tools and why do they work?’… ‘why did my unit fail (or succeed) today?’… ‘will that happen again if we fix (this)?’…
There is a popular Ranger Creed and a history of Roger’s Rules, but they boil down to “What could go wrong with what I’m doing now and what needs to be done next?” That is personal, humbling, and puts the responsibility for success (or failure)squarely on that Ranger’s shoulders. With this credo he accepts each mission and the welfare of the lives that are attached to it. Our Gov. Palin clearly lives by this credo. She knows Americans are struggling to pay rent and feed the kids and pay the dentist and nurse the poorly built car thru one more winter. Any dream of a Savings Account is hopeless for most Americans; Sarah knows these people. She isn’t ugly enough to be a good Ranger, but the woman is still trying to get us off the beach.
I will now take comments from everyone who hates Rangers. Please stand in a straight line and organize your petty diatribes alphabetically. If you don’t know what your children ate today, please go to the end of the line…

I’m a poet also. Where are you Gov. Palin? I still hope to meet you some day.
