Sarah Palin: On the tragedy in Arizona

Posted by loricalabrese on January 9, 2011

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is in critical condition after being shot in the head at close range Saturday morning while holding a public event. At least 19 people were shot at Gifford’s “Your Corner” event held outside a Safeway grocery store in Tucson, including three members of the Democratic congresswoman’s staff in Arizona. Five have died and nine are in critical condition at the University of Arizona Medical Center. Many politicians are weighing in on the unfortunate and senseless act of violence.

Sarah Palin posted this statement on her Facebook page Saturday afternoon…

“My sincere condolences are offered to the family of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims of today’s tragic shooting in Arizona. On behalf of Todd and my family, we all pray for the victims and their families, and for peace and justice.”

President Obama issued a statement, calling the shooting “an unspeakable tragedy.”

“We do not yet have all the answers,” he said. “What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Giffords, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers.”

House Speaker John Boehner also condemned the attack on Giffords.

“I am horrified by the senseless attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff,” he said in a statement. “An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve. Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society.”
