Bristol Palin Talks to Reporters About Dancing With The Stars

From an article by Lisa de Moraes at the Washington Post:
Bristol Palin agreed to join ABC’s dance competition series “Dancing With the Stars” to get out of Alaska and to get in shape, she said during a whirlwind of interviews Monday night and Tuesday morning.
“When you got the phone call . . . what were you thinking?” Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America” gushed at Bristol Tuesday morning, as though she were talking to a convenience store clerk who’d just won a $10 million Publishers Clearinghouse sweepstakes, instead of the daughter of the woman who ran for vice president of the United States in 2008 on the GOP ticket and is the subject of rampant speculation about her interest in a 2012 presidential bid.
Bristol responded coolly that she was “excited” to “be part of something that’s positive and fun.”
“Did you ask your parents’ advice? Or did you tell them, ‘Hey, Mom, Dad, I’m going to be on “Dancing with the Stars” ‘?” Roberts asked.
Bristol revealed she gave Sarah and Todd Palin “a little bit of a heads-up: ‘Hey, Mom, Dad, I signed a contract with “Dancing With the Stars” and I’m going down there in a few weeks.’ ”

“What made you decide to do this?” Bergeron asked Palin.
“I wanted to get out of Alaska for a few weeks,” Bristol said, adding, “I just wanted to get in shape and have a good time.”

“I want to get in shape. I want to learn these dance moves, and I want to step out of my comfort zone,” Bristol told RadarOnline.com, ticking off her non-fame-seeking reasons for going on the reality-competition series, which is attracting “American Idol”-size crowds.

Well said Fay and Joy. There is no need to hate anyone who participate in any contest. In this case DWTS. If she was asked and allowed to be in this contest, people ought not to fault her if she doesn’t dance well to compete with actresses like Brandy, Jennifer, ‘Situation’, Kyle, etc. or even Kurt and Rick. These people have been exposed to extreme competitions. People should learn to just watch, vote for the people they like and have fun and be happy for people who have courage enough to be in this type of competition. I admire her and voted for her because out of nowhere, she learned and she is lucky to be where she is. I know when you keep a life, i.e. her son, you will always be blest, always. Bristol, the Pistol, don’t be attention to the haters, they don’t know any better and are just jealous of you because they cannot be where you are.

Good point, Fay – After I posted that little ditty, I thought about it and realized that it’s smarter for her to earn as much as she can when she can in order to sock away a good chunk of it for her son’s education (since Levi is pretty much MIA when it comes to his responsibiity as a parent and father!). Her extra earnings will come in handy, too, when some of this Hollywood time passes and she still needs income to pay everyday expenses! (I know about THAT – been there, done that, etc.) In a word, Bristol’s smart to cash in while she can – fame & fortune may be fleeting…

If that dork, Levi, is up in Wasilla running for dog catcher, I don’t blame her for “going Hollywood” – at least for a few weeks. However, there was (mean) speculation that she would be among the first to be eliminated – she & Margaret Cho!! GAG!!
Wonder what happened to that job as a “dental assistant?” I think Bristol has a touch of that same I-want-to-be famous disease that nearly felled Levi…

I don’t think so. Bristol seems to have a pretty level business head on her shoulders. She stands to make far more money with her public appearances. And she has been very discreet about all of them.
