Georgia Congressman singles out Palin

Posted by loricalabrese on August 12, 2010

Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) on Wednesday singled out Sarah Palin for her recent endorsement in Georgia’s gubernatorial race and even went as far to say he hopes Palin butts out of future primaries.

Palin endorsed Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel in the gubernatorial primary runoff, who before Palin’s endorsement, trailed in a crowded GOP field.

Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) told the “America’s Morning News” radio show that he didn’t understand Palin’s involvement.

“Why Sarah Palin decided to get in the race is beyond me,” he said. “I don’t know why she feels compelled to get into primaries all over the country. But, you know, fortunately Georgia voters are doing their own thinking on things like this.”

“Everyone in the race was solidly conservative, and Sarah Palin comes in and endorsed the moderate,” he said.

Asked if he would like to see Palin butt out of future GOP primaries, Kingston responded: “I wish she will.”

What’s astonishing about Kingston’s remarks is that he’s sending a message to not get involved in politics. Every American has a voice, so why shouldn’t they use it? I commend Palin who encourages Americans to make a difference in their communities and to take back the principles that the United States was founded upon.

“You don’t need an office and you don’t need a title and you don’t need a teleprompter,” Palin has said. “Don’t let them get you down. Just keep fighting. My dad always says, ‘Don’t retreat. Just reload.’ Don’t let anybody tell you to sit down and shut up.”

It’s also astonishing that Kingston singled out Sarah Palin. Kingston did not criticize former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who also endorsed Handel, nor did he criticize former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who backed Deal. Perhaps Kingston didn’t single out Romney since he was an honorary Georgia co-chair for Mitt Romney’s run for the presidency in 2008.

Cubachi, one of the top 25 conservatives on twitter said, “Last time I checked, Mitt Romney endorsed Karen Handel as well, yet Kingston’s rant was targeted to Sarah Palin. What is his problem with a strong woman endorsing another strong and capable conservative woman? It is suspect that Kingston just singles out Sarah Palin for this inane commentary.”
